I have a clock for a heart…and the man who put it there tried to take it out.
Time Collectors are modern day genies capable of exchanging wishes for time. Elizabeth Wicker lives within a steampunk world riddled with the supernatural. Among the stories of witches, Bacts, and other monsters, Time Collectors remain as the greatest hushed secret among the noble families. They are temptation’s greatest tools. A contract with a Time Collector is a guaranteed death sentence, and for some the price isn’t worth the prize. But when Elizabeth is struck down by a fatal heart attack, she finds herself trapped beneath a Time Collector’s blade. With no time left to offer, she makes a desperate sacrifice for a second chance at life. If there’s only one truth, it is a Time Collector will always come back to collect.

Author Interview:
1.    What does your writing process look like?  Do you know the whole story when you start?  Or do you just start writing and go with it (seat of the pants writing)?  If you plan it out, how do you do that?  Outline, note cards, post-it notes, etc.?

I enjoy planning as much of the story as possible. Before I write, I create what I like to call the Iceberg effect where I write out as much information as possible about the characters and their world and set up a timeline for myself. Obviously, not all this information will be relevant in the story but it is a helpful way for me to fully flesh out my characters and understand their motives.
I write the skeleton of the plot down first, so important scenes and turning points in the series and once I have a vague understanding of the overall arch, I start writing the scenes. It moves forward much like a movie, so I write in order sequence. That’s not to say the story sticks to my initial plan, once it starts moving it will adapt and evolve. I allow my imagination to move freely and take the characters/story where it needs to go.

2.    How do you come up with your ideas for your stories?

I love thinking of the big, what if questions, and ponder about everything around me. My Demonic Ghost came from the philosopher Descartes and his theory of consciousness, The Immortal Gene came from my personal belief in the soul being reincarnated, and Time Weaver came from the fantasy of being granted whatever you desire and its following consequence.

3.    How long have you been writing?

I’ve been writing since I was roughly 7 years old, and I am currently 26 so it has been 19 years. I have been writing professionally since I was 22 years old, so 4 years.

4.    What tips do you have for aspiring writers?

I believe you need to surround yourself with encouragement and never be scared to take whatever opportunities life throws at you. Fear has crushed more dreams than failure ever has, and failing is just learning and perfecting yourself. Keep trying and reach out to other authors and ask for advice.
