September is for Sequels Giveaway Hop

Here we go, another September, another Sequels Challenge and Giveaway Hop!  You can click on the link in the sentence before if you want to join into the challenge. It's really simple, and there is even a prize associated with that for people who participate.  This hop started because of the challenge that I started 4 years ago.  The goal is to catch up on those sequels that often get set on the TBR pile due to all the new books for review that bloggers get to read.  My goal was to try to get as many of those read in September as possible.  So along with that theme, this is a giveaway where you can win a sequel in any series you want from The Book Depository, and it is international as long as they deliver to your country.  Because this is a sequels hop, you cannot pick the first book in a series, but any one from the 2nd on to whatever number that series is on now!  It does need to stay below $20 though.

Once you've entered my Rafflecopter below, be sure to hop on along to the other blogs in the link-up below to see what other awesome prizes are available.

4th Annual September is for Sequels Challenge Sign Ups

Am I the only blogger/reader who falls in love with the first book in a series, and then as I get more and more books to review, more firsts in new series, the sequels tend to sit on my shelf?  I mean I have to buy the sequels right away, usually once they come out, but then they sit on my shelves as I work my way through review books and other new series.  Well, a few years ago I had an idea for a challenge, (well to give credit to who I got the idea from, it was Ems Reviews Books).    Seeing all the challenges that other blogs did, I thought I would set aside the month of September to try to get through as many of those sequels, whatever point of the series I was at, anywhere from #2 to #5, or beyond.  I think the first year I had about 10 people participate, only 6 the 2nd year, but back up to 13 last year.  I'm hoping by getting this posted earlier in the month, maybe I can get some more people this year.  This fits right in with many other challenges, such as the TBR Pile Challenge, End of Series Challenge, etc.  I'm also going to host a Giveaway Hop to go with this, and will link back to that as soon as I get it posted as well.

Objective:
To read and review a minimum of 4 sequels between the dates of September 1st and 30th, 2015.
My goal is to read 8 books, that's only 2 a week, which is the less than I set my goal for last year. But, I know that I still have lots of e-galleys to try to get through for the next few months, because I wasn't good about not requesting everything until just recently.  I also will be in New Orleans the last weekend in September, and while I intend to have books, and my Nook with me, (they always go when I travel), I'm not sure how much time I'll get to spend reading.  Plus, one of my books is a pretty big, thick one, so it will take longer than the others will.  But here is my plan, even though it may change as the month goes by:

  1.  Arianna's Destiny by Michelle Sodaro
  2.  Prodigy (Legend #2) by Marie Lu
  3. Evertrue (Everneath #3) by Brodi Ashton
  4. Lair of Dreams (The Diviners #2) by Libba Bray
  5.  The Storm (The Rain #2) by Virginia Bergin
  6. Infinite (New Souls #3) by Jodi Meadows
  7. End of Days (Penryn and the End of Days #3) by Susan Ee
  8. The White Rose (The Lone City #2) by Amy Ewing
Rules:
  • It would be good if you had a blog to post reviews, or you can be a Goodreads Member and post your reviews on the site.  I'll open it up to people who want to post reviews on Amazon or Barnes and Noble as well.
  • The book must be a sequel - it can be any # in the series, just not the first book.  Prequels can count if they were published AFTER the first one in the series.  You can do e-books, even ARCs or e-galleys, as well as good old fashioned books.  And, I'll even let you count the little 1.5 novellas that are often published as e-books only.
  • The deadline to sign up and participate is September 15th.
  • You must post on your blog an entry that has a list of the sequels you're planning to read, but it doesn't have to be complete, or you could even just post your goal, do you plan to read 8, or more?  You can always go back as the month proceeds and enter the books as you read and review them.  If you don't have a blog, then you can just post a comment on this post listing your goals.
  • Make sure you grab the button and put it in your entry post, or on the sidebar of your blog.
In the sign up form below, you need to give me your name and blog name, Ex:  Lisa (Lisa Loves Lit) or just your blog name is okay, and then a link to your original post that set your goal or listed the books you were reading.  If you are not a blogger, and can't do that post, if you only review on Goodreads, then leave me a link to your profile page on Goodreads so that I can follow you to see your reviews.  If you only review on Amazon or Barnes and  Noble, you can leave me a link to one of your reviews on that site.  Everyone who signs up to participate will be entered once into an end of the month giveaway of a $20 Gift card to Barnes and Noble or Amazon if you prefer, and I may increase the amount of the gift card if I get very many people signed up to participate!  If the winner is International and can't use either of those gift cards, I will let them choose up to $20 worth of books from The Book Depository.  There will also be a way to post a link to each of your reviews in order to earn extra points into the giveaway, that will be with the Rafflecopter below the Sign Up form.

Stacking the Shelves - February 1st, 2014

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga's Reviews.  It is a way for us to share the new books we have collected.  This was a pretty slow week. Which is okay, because I have plenty to read anyway!

E-galleys from Netgalley:

I love the dystopian idea behind this, no one has to eat food anymore, they take medication.  It sounds like a cure for food shortages, right?  But what if you are still hungry with the medication, how will you find food if there isn't any anymore?

And then I was also lucky enough this week to get approved for sequels to two books I've really enjoyed within the past year or so.

So, as you can see, not a ton this week.  But some good ones!  How about you?  What did you get this week to add to your shelves?

2014 Prequel and Sequel Challenge

So, I think I'm going to try this Challenge this year, as a lot of the books on my TBR pile, or maybe just my TBR list are sequels to series that I started because the first book was an e-galley, but then I just never got the 2nd book as an e-galley, or bought it, or whatever.  This challenge is co-hosted by Novel Heartbeat (formerly Auntie Spinelli Reads) and Writer Grrl Reads.

The goal: To read as many prequels and sequels as you can. You set your goal at whatever number works for you.

So, let's see, here are my hopes for this challenge:

  1. Rogue (Croak #3) by Gina Damico
  2. Requiem (Delirium #3) by Lauren Oliver
  3. Prodigy (Legend #2) and Champion (Legend #3) by Marie Lu
  4. Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris:  Deadlocked, Dead Ever After, and After Dead
  5. Walking Disaster (Beautiful #2) and A Beautiful Wedding (Beautiful #2.5) by Jamie McGuire
  6. Shatter Me series by Tehereh Mafi:  Unravel Me, Fracture Me, and Ignite Me
  7. Boundless (Unearthly #3) by Cynthia Hand
  8. Sever (The Chemical Garden #3) by Lauren DeStefano
  9. As They Slip Away (Across the Universe #0.5) and Shades of Earth (Across the Universe #3)  by Beth Revis
  10. I'm hoping to finish The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare.  I've got #5 on the shelf, #6 is supposed to come out this year.
  11. Daughter of Smoke and Bone series by Laini Taylor:  Days of Blood and Starlight, Night of Cake and Puppets,  and Dreams of Gods and Monsters
  12. The whole Revenants series by Amy Plum
  13. Light (Gone #6)  by Michael Grant
  14. The Selection series by Kiera Cass:  The Guard (2.5) and The One (#3)
  15. The Forever Song (Blood of Eden #3) by Julie Kagawa
Those are my hopes for this, and maybe there will be even more!  Mike Mullin is supposed to finish his Ashfall series this year I think.  So I may add on to this.  I just hope I can keep up and make sure to mention in the reviews when they match up to this challenge.

Top 10 Tuesdays: 2014 Releases I'm Dying to Read!

Top Ten Tuesday is sponsored by The Broke and The Bookish. It is often hard for me to come up with 10, but I had trouble narrowing my list down to just 10 this time!  It looks like 2014 is going to be an awesome year!  So, I decided to narrow my list to just the books in a series next year that I am very excited to read:
  1. Evertrue (Everneath #3) by Brodi Ashton
  2. The One (The Selection #3) by Kiera Cass
  3. Erased (Altered #2) by Jennifer Rush
  4. Renegade (Mila 2.0 #2) by Debra Driza
  5. Sunrise (Ashfall #3) by Mike Mullins
  6. The Forever Song (Blood of Eden #3) by Julia Kagawa
  7. Still Untitled (The Raven Cycle #3) by Maggie Stiefvater
  8. Third Strike (The Slayer Chronicles #3) by Heather Brewer
  9. The Strange Maid (United States of Asgard #2) by Tessa Gratton
  10. The Worlds We Make (Fallen Worlds #3) by Megan Crewe
So as you can see, over half of my top ten are #3 in the series, in some cases, the final book in the series.  No wonder I'm so eager!  And as soon as I get several 2nd books read, then I will have even more 3rd books I could add here.  I tried not to add books that I may already have the e-galley or ARC of, as there are a few of those.  I guess I'll just repeat that 2014 looks like an awesome year, and since I'm planning to attend BEA again, I'm hoping I'll get many of these there!
Are any of these books on your top 10 list for 2014?  Please leave me a link to your post if you're participating, or let me know what other books you're excited about for next year in a comment below.

2nd Annual September is for Sequels Challenge Wrap Up

Well, let's see.  All in all, my challenge this year didn't go as well as I'd hoped.  I'm a little disappointed, but I won't quit!  I intend to make this a yearly challenge, so I hope maybe I can get some more of you to sign up and join in next year.  Unfortunately this year I had less people participate, only 5 besides myself, whereas last year I had 7 plus myself.  I also thought that because I seemed to have more time to read this year now that I'm in a library instead of teaching and having papers to grade or lessons to plan, I would up the total of books I planned to read.  But I ended up only reading the same number as I did last year.  I did end up reading 8 of the ones on my list, but I know that some I didn't get to because I had a lot of really long sequels on the list, and I wouldn't have gotten even 8 done if I'd read those.  What is it about September that is just so busy?  The books I finished were:
  1. Sky on Fire (Monument 14 #2) by Emmy Laybourne
  2. Monsters (Ashes Trilogy #3) by Ilsa J. Bick
  3. The Elite (The Selection #2) by Kiera Cass
  4. In the Age of Love and Chocolate (Birthright #3) by Gabrielle Zevin
  5. The Dream Thieves (The Raven Cycle #2) by Maggie Stiefvater
  6. Storm (Swipe #3) by Evan Angler
  7. Everbound (Everneath #2) by Brodi Ashton
  8. Scorch (Croak #2) by Gina Damico
Thanks to those who did participate in the challenge,
Susanne @ A Reader in Time

And the winner of the $20 Gift Card giveaway is:................. Tiffany @ Book Cover Justice!!!  I've already contacted her, and she's chosen an Amazon Gift Card.

So not as successful as I'd hoped, but at least I did complete the same number as last year, and didn't quit!!

September is for Sequels Giveaway Hop

I'm so excited to be co-hosting my very first giveaway hop with I Am a Reader.  This hop came about from the Challenge I set up last year and am continuing this year, to catch up on those sequels that often get set on the TBR pile due to all the new books bloggers get to read.  My goal was to try to get as many of those read in September as possible.  If you'd like to join the challenge, you can go HERE.
There are over 100 blogs participating, so once you've entered my Rafflecopter below, be sure to hop on along to the other blogs to see what other awesome prizes are available.
