Blog Tour - Review and Giveaway: Vanquished by S.E. Green

Book Details:
Vanquished by S.E. Green
Publication date: November 10th, 2015
Genres: New Adult, Thriller

Synopsis:
Where society’s elite go to explore their darkest desires. And where promises of freedom are just manipulative lies.

For a price, the world’s most powerful people can have their darkest desires. On a private island hidden in the ocean, they may hunt humans for game, attend gladiator-style fights, participate in elaborate orgies, and freely indulge in all the deadly sins within the cosplay of ancient times.

Abducted from their life in Miami, Valoria and her younger sister wake up in this secret society, wherein Valoria is condemned to the fights and her sister is taken away to become a sex slave.

Now “property” of a sadistic tyrant, Valoria joins other men and women captives who are forced to fight and maim for others’ enjoyment, to run in their hunts, and participate in deviant fantasies. And she’s under the cold, watchful eye of Alexior, a hired trainer with his own agenda for being involved in the twisted decadence.

After surviving several near-death ordeals, a defiant Valoria focuses on her training and against all odds soon becomes a favorite. But she fights for one thing and one thing only—to be reunited with her sister and to be freed.

But promises of freedom are sometimes just manipulative lies . . .

My Review:
You get a feel for what the story is about from the synopsis for sure. But as I read it, all I could think about was just how brutal the story really was.  This was a story that was so intense that it kept me hanging whenever I had to put the book down to do anything else.  The characters in the story are all so vivid and well-written.  Valoria is someone that you learn so much about through the story, and you are right there with her through all the violent battles and trials and training that she is put through.  The other captives are definitely colorful as well.  You will despise the rich people who "own" all of the captives, and you will cringe at all the injuries that Valoria must either suffer herself, or deal to other captives, in order to not only keep herself alive, but to try to save her sister who disappeared before she even woke up.  There is only a tiny bit of romance, at least for the main character, and I like how it is done. While I am always open to a good romance, and do fall in love with the guys usually, I feel that this one was perfect for the type of setting the characters were trying to survive.  I will mention that this is not a YA book in any sense, it is totally NA or even just adult.  The brutality in it is such a big part of the story, it is understandable why it is not YA.  Not to mention the obvious deviancy of the people running the island that this is all taking place on.

Definitely an edge of your seat read, just make sure you have the stomach for the violence that is what makes this story what it is.

    1. It is, but the ending is one that almost makes up for it.

  3. I like that the characters are well-written. I'm so character focused when I'm reading. Thanks for the warning about the brutality. It's good for potential readers to know so they can make up their minds if they could get through that or not.

    1. It is something you'd have to be able to read. It doesn't necessarily take away from the story, in fact, it probably makes the story what it is. But it is very important to know I would think. Thanks for stopping by!
