Release Blitz with Review: Nothing Personal by Karina Halle

NP - RB Banner.jpg

It's just business, nothing personal.
Until you have to work with your ex.

Nothing Personal, an all-new standalone romantic comedy by New York Times Bestselling author Karina Halle is live!

Nothing Personal AMAZON.jpg

Nova Lane is having the worst week possible. Her latest relationship ended while on her much-needed vacation, then upon her first day back at work, she learns that her beloved boss has quit – and despite having worked so hard for it, she's not being considered for his position.

Who is being considered for the position is none other than Kessler Rocha. Her ex-coworker and ex-lover, Kessler’s the man who broke her heart five years earlier and the reason she moved thousands of miles away, switched jobs, and created numerous voodoo dolls in Kessler’s (very burly, very handsome) liking.
Yup. Worst week ever.

New in town and on her turf, Kessler promises he’s not the same man he was – and considering he’s now a single father to a precocious toddler, he’s telling the truth.
But he’s still an arrogant, devilish and dangerously intelligent man who’s taking over the position Nova feels she deserves. The fact that he’s gotten even more sexy over the years doesn’t help either.
Now Nova and Kessler have the choice to let bygones be bygones, or fight with each other every chance they get, with unresolved sexual tension only adding fuel to the flames, creating a fire that might just burn down the whole office.
In the corporate world they say it’s just business, nothing personal.
Nova and Kessler are about to show just how personal things can get.

My Review:
Source:  E-galley from Social Butterfly PR which did not influence my opinion
My rating:  5 stars

The first book I read by this author was Smut, and I loved it.  But I also enjoyed The Artists trilogy, even though it was much darker.  This book is back along the lines of Smut, light, funny, and just plain fun.  And once again, I loved it!   I love how realistic the reactions were of the characters to set-backs and problems with each other.  But then there was the ridiculousness of some things that just cracked me up so much.  Like the chicken, and Kessler's fear of them, not to mention how he thought he kept running into the same chicken all the way through.  Then the craziness of how Nova dealt with having the guy who broke her heart back was funny too.  Although I totally went "eww" at her bit about finding Jeff Goldblum sexy, because no thank you, personally anyway.  Kessler's son Hunter was adorable, of course, and he added so much to the story without being the biggest part of the story like kids often are.  Towards the end, something happened to come between them, something I saw coming since the first mention of swimming lessons.  And the way it caused a rift between Nova and Kessler definitely brought tears to my eyes.  But I like the way the author handled the overall situation, and how it helped Nova and Kessler finally be able to admit their feelings freely.  Although that even led to a hilarious use of the word "aloha", with lots of uniquely adjusted quotes from movies to use that word.  One of the final issues of the story was a bit of a surprise, and I love when an author can do that.  I guess I should have seen it coming with the way Kessler just happened to have a house to live in.

A wonderfully sweet, very sexy, hilarious story from Karina Halle.  I could barely put the book down to do anything else, and that is what I love in a rom-com!

Cover Reveal: The Secret to Dating Your Best Friend's Sister by Meghan Quinn

How do you date your best friend's sister? Easy.

Step one: Pretend you want her to set you up with someone else. That will bring the two of you closer.

Step two: Go on date with lots of random women, proceed to get stupid drunk and talk about your best friend's sister, thus gaining the courage to finally make a move.

Step three: Randomly show up at her apartment and confess your love. Women love that, right?

It all seemed so simple. A fool-proof three step process that will guarantee the love of you life to fall madly in love with you.

At least--that's what I thought was going to happen. But my attempts to win over Julia Westin backfired in more ways than I can count. The thing about Julia? She's smart--really smart--and her wicked gaze cuts through all the charm I've tried slinging her way. She's not interested in games, my gifts, or my stories. She might want me too; but she's not giving in that easy...

TT-FULL
Synopsis:

Don’t sleep with your best friend.
Take it from me. I did it. And it was awful.
I-wish-the-tequila-made-me-forget kind of bad.
The problem is, Luke has forgotten. He swears that he can’t remember a thing about that night beyond the trays of tequila shots being set on the tables.
Except I can’t forget. I can’t forget how good his hands felt until I fell over and hit my hip on the dresser, and I sure as hell can’t forget the entire two minutes of tap-tap-squirt.
Awkward. Embarrassing. And the new subject of a couple of dirty lucid dreams.
But I have no intention of telling him what we did. Nothing good comes from telling your best friend he’s the worst guy you’ve ever slept with.
Which makes the tequila on my birthday a very, very bad idea…

Excerpt:
Have you ever walked into a store and had to ask where the lady section is?”

I paused, my grip on the fridge door firm, and turned to him. I simply blinked. I wasn’t going to justify that with an answer.

“It took three people before a poor woman at the customer service desk took pity on me and walked me to the tampon aisle,” he went on, oblivious to my death stare. “She hovered over me for a second and I started fucking sweating, Aspen. Sweating.”

I bit my lip and moved the ingredients for his sandwich over to the board on the island.

“I almost dropped my phone trying to find the photo you sent me, and when I finally brought it up, I was so fucking confused I stood there like a lame damn duck for five minutes before she came back to help me like she knew I was a total idiot.”

Was it wrong that I was way more amused about this than anything else? A part of me told me I should feel bad, but…

“Did you know there are tons of those things? The boxes are all different. There are different brands. Different sizes. Different… absorbency levels.” He shuddered, his wide, muscled shoulders shaking with his cringey thought. “For flows and stuff.”

“I shop there regularly. I am aware.”

“Not that fucking regularly if you sent me to buy them,” he muttered. “Anyway, the nice lady who was trying her best not to laugh at the idiot in the sanitary products aisle asked me who I was buying them for. My mom, my sister, my girlfriend…”

I chopped the lettuce.

“When I told her it was for my best friend, she looked at me funny for a minute before nodding. Then, she dragged me over to the aisle with the candy and told me that Twizzlers went well with tampons. I was so confused I didn’t question her, so here.” He lifted a small bag from the stool next to him and tossed it in my direction. “You’re the proud owner of eight packets of Twizzlers.”

“Oooh, Twizzlers!” I dropped the knife and dove into the bag, pulling out all the long, red packets. “This is like heaven!”

“Dude.” Luke leaned forward and held his hands out. “My sandwich?”

“Geez, who’s on their period? You or me?” I put the candy down and went back to making his sandwich. “You should have saved the Twizzlers until after you got your food.”

“Rookie mistake.” He shook his head. “Please don’t ever ask me to buy you tampons again. I’m not sure my ego or reputation can take it.”

“Your reputation got shot to shit on your twenty-first when you mooned the mayor in the town square,” I reminded him.

“And I haven’t mooned anyone since,” he replied. “My pants now stay firmly on when I drink.”

My Review:
Oh my gosh, I don't think I can tell you just how much I LOVED this book!  Even all the things that usually annoy me in stories, the not telling someone when you should tell them, even with those kind of standard story aspects, this is going to be one of my all time favorite books. Because even with those things, I still feel like the way they reacted when the secrets were revealed was realistic.  No one got all mad at the other, but they did get nervous and embarrassed, and that to me, is real.  Something I could see people actually doing.

Now, the best part of this book, was the comedy part.  If you read that excerpt above, you are already cluing in to how hilarious this book was.  I usually only post updates on Goodreads when I have to stop reading and am marking my progress in the book. But as I was reading this one, I had to stop a few times and mark the progress along with a quote or anecdote about the story.  Like the part about how being set up on a date could be compared to a dog having their face rubbed in their own mess.  Or the part when Aspen's best friend tells her:  "I'm ordering you a pizza.  You're dumb when you're hungry."  The characters in this book are just so real!  All the hangups that Aspen has about losing her best friend, as well as being embarrassed about what happened, and how it has changed her feelings, all real, something I have either felt in the past myself, or could totally see myself feeling.  And then there was Luke's family!  So funny.  I mean, actual, literal, laugh out loud funny.

I am honestly not kidding when I say that Emma Hart is probably going to become an all time favorite, must meet author of mine. Now, who can convince her to either go sign at Book Bonanza in Dallas next year, or maybe stop by my hometown next year for Kinky in Kansas City? I have to meet her and tell her how much I love her stories!

Book Blitz with Giveaway: Your Echo (Sherbrooke Station #2) by Katia Rose

Book Info:
Title: Your Echo
Author: Katia Rose
Series:  Sherbrooke Station #2
Publication date: September 12th, 2018
Genres: Adult, Comedy, Contemporary, Romance
Synopsis:
How do you teach a rock star how to meditate?
The number one question on Stéphanie’s mind sounds like the start of a bad joke, and life would be a whole lot easier if she actually knew the punch line.
Her meditation coach job description said nothing about private lessons for the most infamous lead singer in Montreal, but somehow Stéphanie still finds herself sitting cross-legged on a yoga mat, right next to a pierced and tattooed music legend who’d rather be anywhere else.
Meditation classes are Ace’s final chance to convince his record label that the last bender he went on really was his last. The demons that have sent him to the bottom of countless bottles might not give a damn about ‘soothing rhythmic chanting,’ but it’s either this or game over for his career.
He’s not what she wants. She’s not what he’s looking for. Yet somewhere amidst all the incense fumes, the lines between student and teacher get blurred.
Even as their deep breathing exercises become nights filled with panting and gasps, Stéphanie can’t ignore the darkness that never quite leaves Ace’s eyes. It’s a darkness she knows far too well, and if she’s not careful, the cost of helping Ace find his way might just be losing herself.
Your Echo is part of the Sherbrooke Station Quartet, a series of steamy rock star standalones from author Katia Rose.
SNEAK PEEK:
And that’s how I end up singing ‘I’m On Fire’ in a Montreal KTV bar, stone cold sober, while people whip out their smart phones and I try not to think about all the places this video is going to end up. I just stare at Stéphanie from the raised platform that serves as a stage, watching her watch me as the rest of the crowd cheers. At first I’m only fucking around, adding an extra rasp to the words and playing up the sexuality in the lyrics to the point that it’s funny, but something changes the further I get into the song. The slow build of the synth—the tension that rises and rises but never quite breaks—catches up with me, and by the time I get to the long, wavering howls at the end, I can see Stéphanie’s chest heaving even harder than mine.

Author Bio:
Katia Rose is not much of a Pina Colada person, but she does like getting caught in the rain. She prefers her romance served steamy with a side of smart, and is a sucker for quirky characters. A habit of jetting off to distant countries means she’s rarely in one place for very long, but she calls the frigid northland that is Canada home.

Synopsis:
Imagine this.

You’re ready to leave after a one-night stand, and you’re figuring out how to—shock horror—leave your number and ask him to be your fake boyfriend for your sister’s wedding this weekend.

When he wakes up.

Well, that happened to me. And over coffee and omelets, I found myself a date.

Which was how I ended up arriving at the wedding with a guy I knew nothing about.

I didn’t know his last name, or how we met, or how long we’d been dating. I didn’t know where he grew up, what he’d majored in in college, or how many siblings he had.

I sure as hell didn’t know he was Adam Winters, hotshot hockey player, and not only my father’s favorite player, but my little nephew’s freakin’ idol.

Which means I’m in trouble. Big, big trouble.

My mother is suspicious, my sister is bridezilla on crack, and my grandpa will tell anyone who’ll listen about his time in Amsterdam’s Red Light District.

Four days.

I have to keep this up for four days, and then Adam and I can return to our regular lives, where we don’t have sex whenever we’re alone, and my family aren’t interrogating him over his intentions with me.

At least, that’s the plan.

And we all know what happens to those.

My Review
This book is going to go down as one of my all time favorites, and has totally given me a new author to love and read as many books as I can find from her.  First off, Adam was not only hot, he was hilarious!  The way he could put up with Poppy's sarcasm, take it in stride and throw it right back!  My perfect kind of guy.  Something I love in romances is when I can relate to the main character, and I related so much to Poppy!  Her snarkiness, her t-shirts, everything about her screamed me!  Except for the red hair I guess, although I always wished I had red hair, and even have paid to have it at times in my life.  I loved her lack of knowledge about sports, to the point that she didn't even realize who the hot guy she met was until her family recognized him.  I could see that happening to me in a situation like this.

I got my copy of this to read while I was at Book Bonanza in Denver, and I started reading it in line.  I didn't want to carry an extra book around to all the signings, so I just started reading this on my phone.  It was so good I was seriously laughing out loud while I was sitting in line waiting to get in to the signing.  And then I was reading it again during lunch that day, and I was sitting in the restaurant, by myself,  laughing out loud.

Of course it has the usual part where the main character, Poppy, is just sure there is no way things are as perfect as they seem, that he couldn't possibly really like her, and that there is no way they could go anywhere in a relationship afterwards.  I love that her best friend in the story calls her out on this, telling her what is happening is just like in the romance books they read.  Um, YES!!!!  I love that they actually call attention to the fact of what it is.

The family was hilarious as well, all of them fit into the story perfectly and made it perfect.  One of my top reads of the year, one of the funniest for sure!

Excerpt:
“Ready?” Adam strolled out of the bedroom, playing with the button on his shorts.

“For lunch with my mother?” I turned and stared at him, expressionless. “I’m thrilled.”

He laughed and adjusted the short sleeve of his white shirt. “It’s what—an hour? Then she’ll be back snapping at your sister’s ankles. Surely you can give Rosie a break for sixty whole minutes.”

“Oh no. I’ve done that guilt trip my entire life. I’m not getting it from my fake boyfriend, too.” I waggled my finger at him before turning back to the mirror to finish my make-up. “And yes, I can give her a break, but it doesn’t mean I need to be happy about it.”

“Do you ever get along?”

“Yes. When I’m in Orlando and she’s in Key West.”

“I mean when you’re together.”

“In the same room together, or having a conversation together?”

“Now you’re just being awkward, Red.”

I brushed a final stroke of mascara over each of my eyes, then stopped, wand in hand, and met his eyes in the reflection of the mirror. “Given how you ended up here, I would have thought you knew that awkward was my default mode.”

“That was cute-awkward. This is attitude-awkward.”

“How do you know there’s a difference?”

He pointed at himself. “Four sisters. I grew up with attitude-awkward. I could recognize it blindfolded with hands cuffed behind my back from two hundred miles away.”

“Wow. Someone’s cocky.”

“I thought we established that the night we met.”

My cheeks flushed. Damn it. Why did I have to blush like an idiot? Oh, that’s right. I was a redhead and so pale I was a distant relative of Casper the Friendly Ghost, which meant you could see my blushing a mile off.

“You’re adorable when you blush.” Adam grinned.

“Thank God,” I drawled. “That was my life goal. Be adorable. Now, I can get it in neon lights over my bed.”

Blog Tour Review: The Wedding Date by Zara Stoneley

Book info
TitleThe Wedding Date
Author:  Zara Stoneley
Genre: Adult contemporary romantic comedy
Release Date:  April 20th, 2018
Source:  Digital copy from Rachel's Random Resources book tours
My rating:  4 stars

The Wedding Date

One ex.
One wedding.
One little white lie.

When Samantha Jenkins is asked to be the maid of honour at her best friend’s wedding, she couldn’t be happier. There are just three problems…

1) Sam’s ex-boyfriend, Liam, will be the best man.
2) His new girlfriend is pregnant.
3) Sam might have told people she has a new man when she doesn’t (see points 1 and 2 above)

So, Sam does the only sensible thing available to her… and hires a professional to do the job.

Actor Jake Porter is perfect for the role: single, gorgeous and cheap! Sam is certain it’s the perfect solution: no strings, no heartbreak and hopefully no chance of being found out.

But spending a week in the Scottish Highlands with Jake is harder than she imagined. He is the perfect boyfriend, charming, sexy and the hottest thing in a kilt since Outlander! And his dog Harry is quite possibly the cutest things Sam has ever seen!

As the wedding draws closer, Jake plays his part to perfection and everyone believes he is madly in love with Sam. The problem is, Sam’s not sure if Jake is acting anymore…

My Review:
This romance is as sweet as the piece of cake on the cover suggests.  But it's not just a sweet story, it is also very real, and very funny.  It was hard to put down.  I was a little disappointed that there weren't actually any steamy scenes because it pretty much faded out as they began.  It was just a little disappointing as there was a lot of really good sexual tension and build-up throughout, so I'd have loved to get the relief our characters did by at least reading about it.  Other than that, I loved the story.  Sam is so much like me in many ways, one line from the story that fits me perfectly was:

"I'm never quite sure that anything I eat or drink should be green. Apart from M&M's."

If you ask anyone in my family, they'll tell you I don't eat anything green.  I loved her take on life, and how she felt also fit what it feels like to be single these days.  And then there was Jake.  I couldn't help but love him and want my very own Jake.  He was playful, and perfect in how he thought Sam was perfect just as she was.  The way the author played off the secrets he kept was perfect, and even kept me on the edge of my seat as I read, trying to figure out just what could actually be going on with him and his back story.  The author also got me at the end with what I assumed meant there was not going to be a happily ever after, even though I just knew there had to be.  And that made how it came about even better.

I'll probably go on to read more books by this author when I get the chance, and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a sweet romance with a build-up of the sexual tension, but without getting into the actual sex itself.

The perfect man for me is a blood-sucking lawyer. #pfftwhatever

Been there.
Done that.
Burned the T-shirt.

I didn’t swear off all men after my divorce, but I sure as hell swore off anyone remotely like my ex. On the top of that list? Attorneys. Everyone knows they can’t be trusted.

Now that I’m back in Chicago, my focus is my daughter, my mom and me. I haven’t given up on finding my happily-ever-after, it’s just on hold—indefinitely.

Then I see Reed Warner again, and he weasels his way into every part of my life, not willing to take no for an answer.

In spite of my better judgment I can’t stop thinking about the way his designer suits fit his muscular frame, or the way his blue eyes seem to eat me up with every glance.

You know when you’re on a diet and even hummus seems irresistible? Reed is like the equivalent of chocolate éclair and my willpower is fading fast.

The problem? Not only is he a lawyer…

He was the best man at my wedding.

It all began when Daws went to Tires Tires Tires to get a new set of wheels on her car. She was suffering from writer’s block, but apparently the complimentary coffee and cookies cured her. So she decided to bring in cars of friends and family so she could keep writing in the magical waiting room. This time...Daws was to write a sexy romantic comedy about a romance novelist who sneaks into a tire shop and gets caught by a hot mechanic. You can imagine where the love story goes from here.  Eventually, the little tire shop opened their arms to Daws, even putting her release date on their marquee sign outside. It wasn't long before Buzzfeed got wind of it. Then Scary Mommy. Then InspireMore and several other blogs with followers well into the millions. excerpt
She slaps her hand on her knee and bellows gallantly, “But you know what, Miles, you’re right! I should totally find a random hookup tonight.”

“Whoa, I never said anything about random.”

“Well, you’re doing it, so why can’t I?”

I narrow my eyes. “You don’t seem like the random type.”

“Maybe I should be.” Her eyes narrow when she leans in and whispers against my lips. “Can I tell you a secret, Miles?”

“You can tell me anything, Mercedes.”

She giggles and crooks her finger for me to lean in even closer. I’m so close I can smell the faint scent of her cherry lip gloss, and it’s not helping the half boner having a party in my pants.

Her lips graze my ear when she whispers, “My writing makes me horny.”

I nearly choke on my beer. “I’m sorry, what?”

“My writing makes me horny.” She pulls back and nods her confirmation. “I’m serious. I have a sex toy that works really well and really fast, but I miss the heat of a man, ya know?”

My eyes scrunch together, and I rub my fingers in the sockets to make sure I’m awake and hearing this all correctly. “I mean…I don’t really ever miss the heat of man, so I don’t think I know exactly what you’re saying.”

“Fine, the heat of a woman.” She rolls her eyes dramatically “You know what I’m talking about. The heat.”

I frown and shake my head. “You’re going to have to elaborate because I think of a lot of things when I think of women, but their body temperature isn’t one of them.”

“You asked for it.” She laughs and leans in so she’s speaking low and soft and directly into my ear. “The heat of a woman is so much more than temperature. It’s the soft, sensual curves of the female form. The way your fingers dig into the meat of her thighs when she’s wrapped around you. Her smooth, sunken tummy when she’s on her back, the delicate bumps of her ribcage when she’s throwing her head back in pleasure. Tight little nipples in pillows of creamy softness. The fact that you could fold yourself around her and envelop her body almost entirely and still want more. You’re saying you don’t miss that kind of heat?”

I blink slowly, recovering from what just happened. Her voice was a sensual, verbal caress straight on my cock. Then there was the warm heat of her breath on my ear. The deep husk of her tone. The way her warm palm rests softly on my thigh.

Fucking hell.

Holy stars!  This book was a perfect rom-com to a T, T for tires that is!   It was a fun and flirty, fluffy yet dirty read. By fluffy, I kinda mean like one of those over-priced drinks at Starbucks, not the complimentary coffee at Tires, Tires, Tires the author was drinking while she wrote this.  The kind of drink that is chock full of flavors... and sinful calories!  When I found out it was going to be released earlier than planned, I figured I'd just have to wait until after it was published to read and review it, because my reviewing schedule for the week was already planned.  But I couldn't help it. As soon as I opened my Kindle app to see if it had arrived, I couldn't help but to go ahead and download the book.  And then of course, I couldn't help but read a little bit of it before I closed it to go back to the book I was supposed to be reading and reviewing, the one that I was over half-way through.  However, I didn't put it down right away, and I got about 10 % of the way in when I found myself doubled up with laughter at this line about what type of music the character was listening to as she wrote, which better not get cut:

"Groovy synth beats that are good for anal scenes."

Okay, first off, I don't remember Amy Daws's books being quite that dirty!  LOL!  But honestly, when you find out where the main character Kate's idea for her book series came from, then you get it.  Not to mention there are author friends of Amy Daws who do write those kind of scenes.  And there were a few other lines I have to share as favorites, and hope that they don't get cut from the final version:

"Dicks can be such...dicks."  Now this one comes from our hero/love interest Miles.  Noticing how even though he doesn't want to get interested in Kim, or Mercedes - her pen name, which is how she introduced herself to him, one part of his body is definitely standing up in recognition of his attraction.

And towards the end, when Miles is on the phone with his sister who has just woken him up, she very rightly asks him if he is peeing while talking to her.  He says, "It's the creek by my house. It runs really fast and hard in the morning!"   I couldn't laugh out loud or roll on the floor at this like I wanted to, as I was actually sitting at work and finishing up the last 15% of the book at my desk.

This one wasn't as emotionally draining as the other books I've read by the author, but in no way did that make it any less of a perfect story.  Both Amy Daws and her character Kate made me want to go find my own "Tire Depot" to get my inspiration for my own writing.  Reading about a character writing made me pull out the short story I'm working on and finish updating/revising another chapter.

I really liked these characters also, and look forward to hopefully getting stories about the friends in the next two books.  My guess is that her best friend, Lynsey, is going to be the next story we get.  And then I wonder if we'll get their other friend Dean, or maybe it will be Miles's friend Eric?  I don't know, don't care, just want to read more of this series, more of any writing by this author.

Also, I just have to share my fangirl pictures with the author:

This one is from the Kinky in Kansas City Convention 2017.
