Release Day Blitz with Review: The Perfect Duet by Meghan Quinn

The Left Side Of Perfect – Release Day – August 30

For better or for worse,'til death do us part . . .

The better captured me; she's who stole my heart.

And made me realize I couldn’t live without this woman.

The worse of her took my breath away--kicked me when I was down and twisted me into a million knots.

When I first met her, I thought she was someone I would never see again.

The second time I ran into her, it was a random coincidence.

The third?

I didn’t know it at the time, but she was the girl I was going to marry.

But life isn’t always perfect. You have to take the better and the worse--even if it means giving her up, having her slip between your fingers, and letting her walk away.

 I’m getting married.

This is forever, 'til death do us part.

The Right Side Of Forever – Release Day August 31

In sickness and in health, to love and to cherish . . .

It sounds so simple, to love someone unconditionally.

To give them your heart.

So why is she slowly eating away at my soul with every unanswered phone call, every unread text, and every door left unopened?

She said yes, and yet, in order for her to be with me . . . I need to let her go.

Quinn blew me away again with the emotions.  Wow, this is going to be a hard review to write once again with no spoilers.  Let's just say that it is a different kind of story.  You think that what will happen for Colby and Ryan might not be happening.  And the way the blurbs above are written, they are very vague for what or who is going to get together, and who will be left broken-hearted, or maybe not broken-hearted.  While this one again made me cry like the first two, in the end, I feel like everyone was able to come out on the happy side.  I see that one more connection should have been  made.  And maybe there will be a third duet for that specific guy and girl.  But who knows.

We really get to see Colby break out of his quiet, stoic, one-word answer kind of guy so much in this one.  I loved the relationship between Colby and Ryan, even just as best friends.  Having already been introduced to the hellish childhood that Colby endured, in this story we got to see just what Ryan was up against.  And even if I didn't have the same kind of issues with my family and home life, I totally got the way she felt about herself, and that is what hit me so hard and probably made me cry the most, when she was going through those things.  One thing I really loved about the story is that the author made Ryan realize that until she could love herself, or at least like herself a little, she couldn't really be the person that someone else loved, it wasn't fair to that person.  So she worked on it.  But her working on it didn't take forever, it was really a work in progress, and she knew when it was time to move towards her HEA with who she wanted and knew was her guy.

The tattoos were a neat idea as well.  Plus, the whole titles philosophy, that Ryan is striving to be on the "left side of perfect", that's a great thing to think about and strive towards as a person, something I need to think about myself.  Just as with the first duet, you will not be disappointed with this one.  Highly recommended!

About the Author:
Born in New York and raised in Southern California, Meghan has grown into a sassy, peanut butter eating, blonde haired swearing, animal hoarding lady. She is known to bust out and dance if “It’s Raining Men” starts beating through the air and heaven forbid you get a margarita in her, protect your legs because they may be humped.

Once she started commuting for an hour and twenty minutes every day to work for three years, she began to have conversations play in her head, real life, deep male voices and dainty lady coos kind of conversations. Perturbed and confused, she decided to either see a therapist about the hot and steamy voices running through her head or start writing them down. She decided to go with the cheaper option and started writing… enter her first novel, Caught Looking.

Now you can find the spicy, most definitely on the border of lunacy, kind of crazy lady residing in Colorado with the love of her life and her five, furry four legged children, hiking a trail or hiding behind shelves at grocery stores, wondering what kind of lube the nervous stranger will bring home to his wife. Oh and she loves a good boob squeeze!

 My Review:
This is going to be a really hard review to write.  Because there's not a lot I can say without giving away the twist in this book.  I will say that this book takes place between the time when there is the break-up in the first story, The Upside of Falling, then the cliffhanger at the end of that book.  And then it goes on after that scene to wrap up the whole complicated, twisted web of relationships and feelings.   Reading the first book, and falling in love myself with the romance between Colby and Rory, I was so sure how I was going to feel and what I'd be rooting for after the cliffhanger in book one.  But in this second book, my understanding of love, and how Rory loved and who she loved, and who she would be with at the end changed as well.  I mentioned in the first book about how I have that pet peeve of when characters break up with another one or push the other one away because "it is best for them" or "they're not good enough" for them.  Well, that happens again, and again, in this book.  But this time it's not just Rory who does it.  Although, now that I think about it, it wasn't just her in the last book either.

If you haven't started this series yet, you're lucky.  Since they're both out now, you need to buy them both and just read straight through.  Because I promise that ending of the first book will not let you wait to start the next one.  This is my 2nd series of books by Meghan Quinn, and as I said after the last series, she is now on my auto-read list.  And I cannot WAIT to meet her at Book Bonanza in a couple weeks.

My Review:
This is my second series of books by Meghan Quinn, and I think she's going to be one of my auto-read/buy authors from now on!   Also, warning, this book has a cliffhanger, making me so glad I'm on the tour, and also that she isn't releasing them very far apart, because I have got to read on!  I'm so upset with what happened at the end.  Well, in a good way, in a way that made me tear up and I need to find out just what really is happening.
Before this one, I'd only read her Dating By Numbers series, which was a little bit more light-hearted than this one.  The Upside of Falling is a little bit more of a drama/serious story. Sure, there still is what I'm guessing is Quinn's trademark humorous dialog, but the relationship and the background of the main characters is a lot deeper in some ways.  Not that the other series didn't have some emotional parts where teared up, but this one had a lot of those moments.  Colby and Rory had a relationship that was hard-fought for, and definitely well-earned.  For the most part there weren't any of those little tropes or issues that I have problems with in romance.  They both listened or talked when they needed to tell the other one something.  So that misunderstandings didn't come between them.
This story brought to mind the movie An Officer and a Gentleman for me.  And I do really like that movie.  I don't read a ton of military romances, which is kind of weird when I think about it.  I mean, I'm a big fan of military guys, so not sure why I don't read more of these.  But this was a good one.
Remember how I said that it didn't do any of those things that always irritated me, well I guess I lied a bit.  You know that thing where one person breaks up with the other because they know/think the other would be better off not having to deal with them? Well, that happens in this book.  And it makes me mad.  And it also makes what happens at the very end a surprise to me, because I did NOT see it coming. Especially with a second book!  I have no idea what is going to happen in book two.  How this romance will play out.  However, I am on the edge of my seat waiting to find out!
