We're the authors of the upcoming young adult novel, MY LADY JANE, which will be out with HarperTeen on June 7, 2016. Our group is made up of Brodi Ashton (author of the EVERNEATH series and DIPLOMATIC IMMUNITY), Cynthia Hand (New York Times bestselling author of the UNEARTHLY series and THE LAST TIME WE SAY GOODBYE), and Jodi Meadows (author of the INCARNATE and the ORPHAN QUEEN series). Between the three of us we've written thirteen novels, a bunch of novellas, a handful of short stories, and a couple of really bad poems, but this is the first time we've taken a stab at writing a book together. We're friends. We're writers. We're fixing history by rewriting one sad story at a time.

Waiting on Wednesday: My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine where we spotlight upcoming releases that we're eagerly awaiting.  I've chosen what I believe is another standalone novel this week.  A historical fiction told by three of my favorite YA authors.  The blurb doesn't give away much, here it is from Goodreads:

November is for Novellas Challenge #8: Radiant (Unearthly #2.5) by Cynthia Hand

Reading this novella made me realize how much I need to finish this series.  It almost made me do Wishlist Wednesday instead of Waiting on Wednesday this week.  But I didn't.  This was another good novella.  But because it had been awhile since I'd read the 2nd book, it did take me a minute to remember who Angela was.  This story is told from both Angela and Clara's point of view.  Which I kind of liked, because we get to read about how Angela met her "angel" boyfriend, well maybe not boyfriend, but guy she's in love with anyway.  It was nice to remember what had happened as we left off from the 2nd book as well.  In the story Clara is with Angela visiting her family in Italy.  Which is just so neat on its own.  And we go back and forth between the two girls.  Learning about Angela's angel named Phen, as well as getting to see what Clara is thinking about with her own "boy" that is no longer hers back home.  Also how Clara is doing with the loss of her mother and what she'd learned about her true father.  I know now that I'm going to have to get my hands on the 3rd book in the series, Boundless, soon.

I got to read the first book in this series, Unearthly as an ARC a few months before it came out the beginning of this year. So I'm glad I was able to get this egalley from Netgalley and HarperTeen. It means the amount of time between reading them is the same for people who wait for each book to come out, and I like that. This was probably the 2nd angel series I read, I gave it a try after I liked Hush, Hushand I enjoyed it as well. In this book we jump in about where we left off. Clara is with Tucker, the boy she decided to save in the book before, even though her purpose seemed to be directing her to save Christian, who it turned out was also an angel-blood. Tucker knows the basics about Clara being an angel. In this book though, Clara gets a new vision, and since she's sure she failed her purpose, she thinks that it will be someone she loves who dies. She soon finds out that it will be, but not who she first imagines. And when she finds this out, it leads to all sorts of changes in her life. But the Black Wing from the first book is back. But her father also comes back. And she learns all sorts of things about herself, as well as angels in general. And her brother is hiding something, we do find out what, but still unsure quite why he is acting the way he is, we are left wondering at the end.

Once I got back into the book and remembered all from the first book, I got sucked back in and it was a book I had trouble putting down. So I'm sure people who enjoyed the first one will be glad to pick this one up. It actually left me ready to read the next in the series, which I'm sure there will have to be.

The Hazards of Working at a Bookstore Vol. 2.4 Part 2

Okay, finally getting around to adding another post about this. Hoping this one will get posted as soon as I'm done, as I have 5 books to actually review as well.

First is Mercy by Rebecca Lim. This is another angel story. Our main character is Mercy, who wakes up and can't remember who she is. She finds out that she is one of the angels who was thrown out of heaven for supporting Lucifer. Now, to get back to heaven, she must help out a bunch of people. I think this is going to be a series. I've had luck with 2 angel stories, the Hush, Hush series by Becca Fitzpatrick, as well as Unearthly by Cynthia Hand. And in a way, the whole Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare is actually about angels too. So I'll add this to my list of angel stories to read.

Second is Ark by Stephen Baxter. In looking this up to talk about it, I see that it is a sequ

el to another book called Flood. The whole story is that the sea levels begin rising, flooding the world. Now, normally, I'm not a believer in the whole global warming thing, but this story isn't necessarily all about that, it actually sounds like an interesting story. I've read other books by Stephen Baxter, so look forward to reading this one as well.

Finally is Treasures From The Attic by Mirjam Pressler. Especially after I just finished the book called Surviving the Angel of Death about twins who survived the holocaust and experiements by Dr. Mengele, I am very ready to read this book. This as you may guess from the title is about Anne Frank, the famous holocaust diary written in an attic. A daughter in law goes to clean her mother in laws attic when she dies, and finds a treasure trove of Anne Frank artifacts. The family didn't know that they were a part of history, and learn from what they find.

2011 Debut Author Challenge 2: Unearthly by Cynthia Hand

I read this book as part of the 2011 Debut Author Challenge being sponsored by Kristi over at The Story Siren. And actually, this was not on the original list I posted when I signed up to do this. However, the ARC was sitting on the table at the bookstore, so I decided to pick it up and read it. And boy am I glad I did!

This is another book about angels on Earth. At first, I almost didn't read it. I did love the book Hush, Hush and it's sequel Crescendo, and I like the tv show Supernatural which has had an angel storyline for a few years now, but I wasn't sure if I could get into another angel story.

But once I got to reading this story, I was hooked. I had to know. Our main character is Clara Gardner, who has learned she is part angel, 1/4 to be specific. Her mother is 1/2. When angels get to a certain age, they start getting visions of their purpose. In Clara's vision she sees a boy from the back, who is in a forest fire, and she feels really sad. Every time Clara has the vision she sees a little more, and soon she is able to find out where this is going to happen. So she moves with her mom and younger brother to Wyoming. Here she sees the truck that was in her vision, and meets the boy she is to save. It's not forest fire season yet, so she knows there is time to figure out the where and how. And she also has to continue to learn her powers, like flying. In Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Clara will meet lots of interesting characters, and learn more about being an angel. It's definitely a romance, a triangle of course. And I know exactly who I'm rooting for, and it's not who you'd probably think.

I'm hoping/assuming that there will be a sequel to this, especially based on how it ended. But I highly recommend it to anyone who is a Twilight fan, Hush Hush fan, or any type of supernatural romance fan.
