You know that pact you make with your childhood best friend of the opposite sex? The one where, if you’re both still single, lonely and hopeless at thirty, you’ll marry each other?

This is the story about what happens when you hit the big three-oh and have to make good on that pinky promise.

Personally, I think love, romance and all of that nonsense is a crock of, well, you know. And Reese Collins, the boy who used to put worms in my hair at backyard barbecues, knows that better than anyone.

But when he moves to the same city I’ve happily, and singly, inhabited for years, memories of oaths past resurface. Reese is like a dog with a bone; a really hot dog and that bone just happens to be me.

He won’t stop hounding me, and the crazy thing is, my frigid, traitorous heart is starting to cave. For my best friend.

It seems so far off, when you’re a kid playing Monopoly in your treehouse. But when that clock strikes midnight on your thirtieth birthday, and you’re standing alone in front of a grocery store-bought cupcake, a childhood deal to walk down the aisle doesn’t seem so silly anymore.

My Review:
Books like this one make me sad that I didn't have a best guy friend to make my own pact with.  The banter between Reese and Erin had me laughing out loud constantly.  I loved the steamy scenes, especially how Reese would do something that is so often a part of sex scenes in books, and Erin would tell him that no, she didn't like that.  I loved that, because if you read all these romance books, like I do, you start to think you're weird if you don't enjoy something that always seems to be enjoyed by the women in the stories.  And then, when she calls him out for his "ABCs"?!  OMG!  That totally took me back to my college days, and my sorority sisters and I prank-calling a guy I had a crush on.   There was just so much in this book that was realistic, and that I related to so much.  Another thing I loved was that we got a lot of the happily ever after in a few chapters at the end, something that I often feel is missing, even with epilogues.  This is my second book by Carrie Aarons, and I know that it will not be my last!

If you’re in, you’ll never have to ask. If you ask, you’ll never be in.

Eloise Mason knows what it’s like to live among the privileged. Seeking a change from the upper crust society of Europe, she flies halfway across the world for a semester abroad in the one place guaranteed to toss responsibility out the window and provide some good, old-fashioned fun; college in The United States.

Except nothing at the picturesque, Ivy-covered university in Vermont appears as it seems. And after a mysterious invitation arrives on her doorstep, curiosity wins over the need to turn her back on games meant for the rich and ruthless.

Secret societies, risky tasks, and an inner circle to rival the royals. But it may just be one American boy who threatens to be the most dangerous endeavor of all.

Colton Reiter defines the word idolized at Jade Mountain University. In fact, he practically rules the roost from the three point line of the basketball court. The college’s star point guard, he is a god and treated as such; professional scouts at every game, teachers looking the other way when it comes to grades, and girls falling into his lap at the snap of a finger. He wants for nothing, or at least that’s what he wants everyone to believe.

But when he meets the sassy girl with the British accent who could care less about his status, her very existence threatens to unveil the skeletons buried deep in the back of his closet.

With stakes this high, and hearts on the line, can they turn their backs on power and popularity before the ivory tower comes crashing down on their heads?

You scream. I scream. We all scream during … well, you get the point.

After a failed eight-year relationship and a cross-country move, the last thing I’m looking for as a single mom is a new flame. In fact, diapers, walls marked in crayon, and daycare pickup are the only things on my to-do list.

Enter Jake Brady, your friendly neighborhood food truck owner whose dimples and delicacies won’t seem to leave well enough alone. With more popularity than the president, his wine-infused sweet treats have our nation’s capital hooked. He’s spontaneous, smug and all-American gorgeous; a dangerous combination considering he has no interest in taking on the responsibilities that rule my life.

But when we can’t seem to sample enough of each other’s … desserts, things start to get complicated. Jake is biting off more than he can chew, and when I watch him with my daughter, I can’t seem to freeze my melting heart.

Maybe it’s his waffle cone. Maybe it’s his … banana split. Either way, I think I’m in trouble with a cherry on top.

Cover Characteristic: New York City

The Cover Characteristic meme is hosted at  Sugar and Snark.   Here are the guidelines:

Each week we will post a characteristic and choose 5 of our favorite covers with that characteristic. If you want to join in and share your 5 favorite covers with the weeks particular characteristic, then just make a post, grab the meme picture (or make your own) and leave your URL in Linky (so we can visit).

I had so many choices for this.  But since I've done a skyline post before, I wanted to do other types of NYC covers/scenes.  So here are 5 in no particular order.

1.

2.  For this I picked two books in a series that show individual locations in NYC.

  3.

4.

5.

So those are the top 5 I chose.  Have you read any of them?  What do you think of my choices?

Review and Release Blitz: All the Frogs in Manhattan by Carrie Aarons

Book info:

Review:
What can I say, but I loved this book!  It really reminds me of the books I used to read about 15 years ago that I called "chick lit" and shared with my younger sister who now lives in NYC, where this book takes place.  It was funny, it was realistic, it was so hard to put down when other things in life needed attention.  It really fits today's dating scene though, because it inlcudes a dating app like Tinder, and I think it represents exactly how many of my friends have dealt with their experiences with that app or others like it.  It made me realize that when I have people read the romance novels I am currently working on, I probably need to have a younger opinion.  The people who read my snippet at a writing convention just recently all didn't really get the whole casual sex thing, which is a realistic thing, and yes something that women can do and actually do!  This book talks about it because of the show Sex and the City, which is more recent than from when I was that age, we didn't have shows like that. But when I first saw that show in my 30s, it reminded me of my group of friends in college and our 20s, and I felt that connection with it right away.

There are just so many little details that fit in to what things people may not realize are actually real things, but one that I made sure to note was the "clothes chair."  In my room, it is not a chair these days, but one of those standing jewelry boxes/organizers that I use to throw clothes on that are not "clean", they've been worn once maybe, but they're not ready to be washed, I should be able to get one more wear out of them, right?  In some bedrooms it might be an exercise machine, and like this books says, a chair.  Am I right?  Don't you have one of those in your bedroom?

Anyway, this was a fun read, and I hope you all get a chance to pick it up and read it soon!

You know how Cinderella had the whole glass slipper, pumpkin carriage, fairy godmother thing?

Yeah…with foot-destroying stilettos, Uber, and a Twitter horoscope, my life is far from a happily ever after.

In fact, instead of Prince Charming, I end up dating every slimy, scaly, brainless frog in the kingdom of Manhattan. And by frog, I mean all of the stereotypical bad guys that Mom and Lifetime movies warned you about.

The meathead player.
The mommy's boy.
The namedropper.
The cheapskate.

If they suck at relationships, I’ve probably kissed those cold, clammy lips in the hopes of finding love. Until one day, when one man with commitment issues offers to help me find the Romeo to my Juliet.

But what happens when the frog, who was never supposed to turn into a prince, kisses you at midnight? Ok fine, he propositioned me for some afternoon delight after brunch, but not everything can be straight out of a fairytale.
