Pizza
Toppings that Make Friends and Enemies
By:
Jolene Haley
People disappoint—pizza is
eternal. I’m pretty certain I want that on my gravestone and I think that most
of my fellow authors in A Pizza
My Heart pizzathology would agree.
We got together over a year
ago, all fifteen of us, and we wrote pizza stories. Stories about love, loss,
murder, outer space, urban legends, secret passwords, and more. We wrote happy
moments, sad moments, and saucy things that you’ll probably like if you like
sauce of any kind.
One of the most important
things about pizza are the toppings and of course, the crust. So a few of my
team members wanted to weigh in on what toppings are good and evil. See if you
agree!
aren’t? And which toppings make enemies?
The
more, the better. And I don't think you can go wrong with meat toppings:
hamburger, pepperoni, and of course BACON! Mmmm, bacon. But just like my
metaphors, I don't like to mix my meats. And I don't go for too many veggie
toppings because I don't want my pizza to be a
salad, ya know? Also, I think fruit toppings (I'm talking to YOU, pineapple!)
are not only icky, they are actually committing a crime against pizza.
Mushrooms and pineapple are the enemies, veggies are frenemies,
and any kind of meat is the best part of any pizza. (Seriously though, why
would you put pineapple on a pizza?)
Pineapple! That's the most magical pizza topping, and
my close friend and I most love it added with spinach, onions, mushrooms,
bacon, and white sauce—but another friend refuses to touch it when mushrooms
are involved.
Easy: artichoke hearts, black olives, spinach, pineapple, and
bacon crumbles. And maybe tatter tots.
Call me simple but all I need on my pizza is a thick crust and
some magnificent cheese. Twenty extra credit points if I get to feed it to Fox
Mulder.
