The Friday 56 - June 5th, 2015

This week I'm going to participate once again in Friday 56, sponsored by Freda's Voice.  I haven't done this in awhile.  Here are the rules:

Rules:

*Grab a book, any book.
*Turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader
*Find any sentence, (or few, just don't spoil it) that grabs you.
*Post it.
*Add your (url) post below in Linky. Add the post url, not your blog url. It's that simple.

"I did an automatic inventory of the bathroom, trying to anticipate what would be thrown next and how badly it could my sister if Mom's aim improved.
Ancient, heavy hair dryer.  Empty hand soap bottle. Stick of deodorant."

The Friday 56 #12

I am not having much reading time, and so I'm only about halfway through my current read, and then I'll have to start another one tomorrow for a tour post on Monday.  So, once again this week I'm going to participate in Friday 56, sponsored by Freda's Voice.

Here is my post for the week:

"I've never seen her like that.  It was scary, Jules," he said. "She told us we had to throw the trunk in the water, and when we told her we couldn't do that, she sent me to go get lighter fluid from the supply trailer.  We carried that thing way back behind a bunch of Dumpsters.  Where she made us torch it.  The smell of the leather...it was awful.  And she was chanting something weird under her breath.  I guess in Italian.  Or Latin maybe."  He shivered in the fan's breeze."

You can probably tell there is a bit of superstition in this book about the circus.  And something bad had to be destroyed because of it.

The Friday 56 #11

I am so close to being done, well, over 100 pages that is, with my latest book, but not quite ready to review.  So, once again this week I'm going to participate in Friday 56, sponsored by Freda's Voice.

So here is mine for the week:

"The house was so quiet I didn't expect anyone to be there.  Simon was at the table.  Except for the stove and the table, ever surface in that kitchen - and some of the floor - was covered with some kind of container, all of them filled with water.  That was weird, but I didn't want to go there.  I saw; I did not want to discuss."

That doesn't quite tell what the story is actually about, but it definitely is a good quote to go with the title of the book.

"Cherry blossoms die as quickly as they bloom, so one must always come with the proper clothes and the proper attitude to admire their beauty before they pass away  so quickly.  The great writer Motojirou-san said it best:  Sakura no ki no shita ni wa shitai ga umatte iru. (Dead bodies lie under the cherry tree.)"

"The black thing in side the globe pulsed and twitched like a beating heart.  It seemed to become more animated the longer we stared at it.  It was almost like a gelatinous cauliflower.  Here and there on its velvet surface, a mound would rise up, like a mosquito bite, a black pimple, and then burst open at its peak."

"Datacheck the word.  Then the name will make sense once you meet her."

  • Dementia [di-MEN-sha]:  Mental deterioration of organic or functional origin.

I cannot imagine how this word could be personified in a real human girl, and I cannot wait to find out."

"If Nate didn't show up for dinner tonight, the Chairman would recommend to the Lakes that they send Nadia to the Preston Sanctuary, the upstate retreat his mother had holed herself up in for the past decade.  It was the kind of place where visitors were as rare as four leaf clovers, and from which Executives rarely emerged.  In one of these places, Nadia might well disappear from his life as thoroughly as his mother had."

While you're here you might want to join into my November is for Novellas Challenge to clear some of those off your own TBR list.

"I didn't get into the party.  One, I wasn't in the mood, and two, dancing with the Winter fey didn't seem like such a good idea.  Especially after I saw a group of drunk, glamour-high redcaps swarm a boggart and tear it limb from limb.  It was like a mosh pit from hell."

And just like last time I did this, I have a giveaway going on, be sure to stop by my Fierce Reads Giveaway and enter to be one of 5 winners who will get a book from the list!

"All of us," he said.  "All of us are missing the forest for the trees.  All this time we've been fighting these little battles, waging these little acts of defiance.  But a tidal wave is about to hit.  And when it does, you, me--everyone--will be woefully unprepared."

"Of course I won't forget about Ethan! He's my brother! Are you really that inhuman, or just stupid?"
To my surprise, a grin spread over his face.  He dropped the bottle, caught it, and put it on the floor.  "The first," he said, very softly.
That threw me.  "What?"
"Inhuman."  He was still grinning at me, the smile stretching his whole mouth so that his teeth gleamed in the fading light.  "I warned you, princess.  I'm not like you.  And now, neither is your brother."

While you're here, check out some giveaways I have going on, or am spotlighting:

The Friday 56 #1

I really, really, really wanted to participate this week in the feature and follow as it is a tour of your bookshelves.  Unfortunately the room that my bookshelves are in, along with my bookshelves are in a bit of turmoil as I'm rearranging and organizing that room.  So, I had to find a different Friday meme to participate in because of that and the fact that I don't have a review to post because my current read is a REALLY long one!  Can't believe I'm only 40% through it in several days!  I must finish it this weekend or there's no way I'll meet my goal for my 2nd Annual September is for Sequels Challenge. So I found this one, The Friday 56, sponsored by Freda's Voice.  Here is what you do:

Rules:*Grab a book, any book.
*Turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader
*Find any sentence, (or few, just don't spoil it) that grabs you.
*Post it.
*Add your (url) post below in Linky. Add the post url, not your blog url. It's that simple.

"I'm okay," Alex said breathlessly.  Her eardrums felt broken.  "You go.  Help her down.  I'm right behind you."  Now that she was up here, she wasn't sure, all of a sudden, whether this was such a hot idea.  The ground still looked really far away, and this northwest patch of the porch was glittery with ice crystals.  Slip and I'll break my neck.  Standing in the tub, she watched Wolf spider down to Penny, then coax her to the edge of the porch.  At her back, she could feel the heat build; heard a high, eerie howl over the locomotive churn of the fire.  Above the sink, a mirrored medicine cabinet chest suddenly gave way with a watery kersplash into the porcelain basin.  Beneath her feet, the tub shifted and shivered, and she realized then that the house was coming down.
