Banned Books Week Giveaway Hop 2015

Stacking the Shelves - September 21st, 2014

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga's Reviews. It is a way for us to share the new books we have collected.  Here's what I got this past week.

Books won:



 The first one I won from Bookhounds in the September is for Sequels Giveaway Hop that I co-hosted earlier this month.  I don't normally enter that, but this was a book I really wanted, so I couldn't help myself!!  The 2nd is one that I won clear back in April from Adventures in YA Publishing.  They finally were able to get a copy and get it sent out, so that was awesome!

Got this from Edelweiss.  Not many this past week.  Plus I'm trying to be really good and only request or download ones that I know for sure I want to read and will read.  I already have so many to get through!

 The 2nd one I'll be reviewing and posting my spot on the tour next Saturday the 27th.  Not sure on the date of the other one yet.  Next month maybe?

Banned Book Weeks Hop 2013

Thanks to Kathy at I Am a Reader, and Mary at Bookhounds for hosting this blog hop.  Since I have a display up for Banned Book Weeks in my library, I felt it would be good to participate in this as well.  Banned Books Week is something the American Library Association (ALA) began to raise awareness of the censorship of books.  You can go to their website HERE, to learn more about it.  I also really enjoyed this top 10 list of stupid reasons for banning books HERE, and even have it listed on my display in my library.  Here's a picture of my display:

Banned Books Week Giveaway Hop

As a current teacher, and a librarian wannabe, I am really glad to be participating in this Blog Hop.  I think it is very important that all people get the chance to read what they want.  No one should be able to tell another person what they can or can't read (except parents and their children) just because there is something in the book they don't like or agree with.  One of the banned books I've picked below as one of my favorites is all about a girl who is on drugs and her life is just horrible.  But reading it in high school didn't make me want to do drugs, and didn't glamorize it in any way.  It just gave me a look into that world, one that I would never have seen, and helped to give me some empathy for people who did find themselves in that situation.
This is the 30th Anniversary of Banned Book Week as put on by ALA, the American Library Association.  Some of the books I found on the list are just unimaginable as to why they could possibly be on there.  You can get more information about that from the ALA website.
