It should have been easy.
I needed the money. He needed a babysitter to keep him from snorting himself to death.
I was cherry-picked especially for him. Responsible. Optimistic. Warm. Innocent.
The worst part is that I should have known better.
Alex Winslow. British rock star. Serial heartbreaker. Casanova with whiskey eyes.
“Don’t get near the devil in a leather jacket. He’ll chew you up and spit you out.”
Sounds familiar? That’s because it was a headline in a tabloid the second time he got arrested.
Guess what? I didn’t listen.
I signed the contract.
World tour. Three months. Four Continents. One hundred shows.
My name is Indigo Bellamy, and I sold my soul to a tattooed god.
Problem was, my soul wasn’t enough for Alex Winslow. He ended up taking my body, too.
Then he took my heart.
Then he took my all.

Review: His Every Need (Beauty and the Brit #1) by Terri L. Austin

Book info:
Title:  His Every Need
Author:  Terri L. Austin
Series:  Beauty and the Brit #1
Genre:  Contemporary romance
Published:  August 5th, 2014
Source:  I purchased from bookstore where I work

I didn't realize that the book, His Kind of Trouble, was part of a series, and not the first one in the series, until of course I looked on Goodreads.   But, I wanted to read the first story because it was the story of that character, Monica's older sister Allie.  Now, in that book, I didn't like Allie.  She seemed like a mean older sister.  So as I read this one, I went into it not knowing how I'd feel.  But Allie's story definitely changed my mind on her, and made me see her side against Monica.  This first book made you not as big a fan of Monica's.  So it was definitely an interesting way to see characters and how they see the people around themselves.

This story is how Allie tries to save her father's house from the rich man who has won it from her father.  His name is Trevor, and Allie decides to go beg him for the house back, telling him all about it has been her family's house since their mother died, and that it is all they have left.  Allie has to be the adult in the family now, her dad is not much help.  Allie notices that Trevor seems to find her physically attractive and so she offers him anything he wants if he will just let them keep the house.  They set up a contract and he makes her move in with him.  She then has to make her family think that she is just working for him as a personal assistant.  But while she's gone one of her younger sisters, Monica, really starts rebelling and even runs away to live with her boyfriend.  The youngest sister, Brynn, ends up feeling almost deserted and horrified when their dad starts dating someone who works at her school.

Of course Trevor comes from a bad family background, and as things between him and Allie start to get more friendly and make the relationship to be more of an actual relationship, his parents show up.  And they are going to get remarried, to each other.  Trevor can't stand dealing with them and is fed up with them just barging into his life and wanting to try to "make it up to him" all that they ruined when he was a child.  Of course this leads to a backslide in the relationship between Trevor and Allie.  Trevor will set a detective out to find this boyfriend of Monica's and try to find where they've been holing up.

Of course as I'd already read the second book, I already know how it's going to end for the most part. And as it is a romance, you can probably guess it will be a HEA ending as well.  It definitely has its steamy parts, just like the second book.  And I loved that Trevor was British, who doesn't love a sexy British guy?  A good read, and I'm now going to have to get a hold of the third book, His to Keep, and get Brynn's story when she is grown up.

Review: His Kind of Trouble (Beauty and the Brit #2) by Terri L. Austin

This is an adult romance, and one that I first learned about when we had the author come to our store to sign her books.  About a month ago I decided that the book synopsis sounded interesting, so I went ahead and bought it in the mass market paperback.  Unfortunately I'm not sure the rest of the series comes in that size, so I'll have to buy the trade paper size, which is usually about $7-10 more.  Also, I didn't realize this was the second in the series, not that you have to read them in order necessarily.  But I will want to go back and read the first one, because one of the characters in this book is the main woman in the first one, and since I don't like her very much in this one, it might help to get her side of the story.  This was a good story.  Quick and easy to read!  And like I said, I am going to try to read the others at some point.

In this book the main characters are Monica and Cal.  When we meet them, Monica is a pretty wild college aged girl, at her father's wedding.  She and her sister lost their mother, and so it is hard for her to see her father move on.  Part of her wild-child personality catches a hot guy who walks into the church, wearing a leather jacket, and not at all dressed for a wedding.  When she hears him speak with a British accent, she decides to get him alone out in the garden behind her sister's house.  This guy is Cal, and he actually is pretty much into this.  But then, Monica's sister walks out and catches them and makes Monica go in.

When we get back into the story, it is five years later.  Monica has changed quite a bit.  She is very straight-laced and proper.  She works with her sister at a charity they founded in honor of their mother.  She dates a nice guy, and doesn't do the crazy things anymore.  But then when she goes over to her sister's house for a meeting about the charity, Cal is outside the house working on a car.  Turns out that Cal is her sister's brother in law.  And he remembers Monica and what almost happened between them.  He wants to pick right up where they left off, but she refuses.  She doesn't want him to take her back to her old ways, even being around him for the short time in their first meeting in five years makes her want to forget all that she's done to change.  During the years between when they last saw each other, something had happened to her that had scared her enough to send her on the opposite path of where she had been heading.

But Cal refuses to let her go.  His plan is to show her that she can still have some of what she enjoyed back then, with him especially, without having to give up her good life. But he can also see that her changes have really made her a different person, and that she doesn't seem to be any happier this way, in fact she seems very unhappy to him.  Several encounters get things going between them again, and even though Monica doesn't want to get serious, knowing that Cal will continue to move from place to place as he always has in the past, breaking her heart and sending her back where she doesn't want to go.  Cal isn't sure where it is going, but he knows that he wants to be with Monica, and he will do what he can to keep her.  He also has something that happened to him in the past five years that has shaped how he behaves and what he will do with the rest of his life.

The sex scenes are steamy and fun.  It's a pretty quick read, with some emotional bits, and definitely a good story.  I look forward to going back to read the older sister's story, as well as going on to the next book, which I think is about Cal's younger sister.

Audiobook Review: Losing It by Cora Carmack

This was my next audiobook that I downloaded for free from the public library.  And while the way the guy looks on the cover is a little creepy/pasty pale for me (yes I know it's part of the story that he's so pale because he's British), the guy in the story was definitely a good one!  Cora Carmack is another author I've heard a lot about, along with Colleen Hoover, in the New Adult genre of books.  And I have to say that this book did not disappoint.  I loved it, and can't wait to read the other books in the series, as well as more books by her.

Now, the title of this is the same as an ARC I told you about a couple weeks ago that I had emailed and begged the publisher for, Losing It.  However this is a different author and story, even though there is the small smidgen of similarity in that both are about a girl who is still at a virgin at an older age.

In this one, the main character is a college senior named Bliss.  Bliss is a virgin, and her best friend has helped her to decide that it is time for her to get that out of the way.  So they decide to go out and find her the perfect guy at a bar at the beginning of the book.  At the bar she first sees the bartender, who is cute, and seems to be flirting back with her.  When she heads back to the bathroom, she notices a cute guy sitting by the pool tables reading Shakespeare.  She's a bit tipsy at this point, using alcohol as a way to smooth away her nervousness at this big step.  She teases the guy that the only reason he would be reading Shakespeare at a bar is to try to pick up women.  When he responds, with an English accent no less, she ends up staying and talking to him, and finding that maybe this guy, his name is Garrick, is who she will pick for her first.  They end up taking his motorcycle back to her apartment, because he had locked himself out of his own, and was waiting for the locksmith to come.  Things are getting very hot and heavy, everyone is pretty much undressed, and suddenly, Bliss freaks out, and leaves him, claiming that her cat is at the vet and she has to go pick it up.  She runs out of her apartment and goes and hides around the corner of the building, watching the door of her apartment to see when he will leave.  About 10 minutes later, he does finally come out.  And she's horrified to see that he just walks over to the building across the way, he lives in her apartment complex!

Then she goes into school the next day, she's an acting major, and things get worse.  Turns out that Garrick is her new professor.  At first they try to fight it, with Bliss trying to avoid him so that she won't be embarrassed.  But soon the two of them figure out that maybe they can't fight it.  Of course, she still doesn't give away about the sex thing with him.  She waits.  And in the end, will it work out with him?  Or will she keep running away from all that scares her about the act.  Will Garrick be able to put up with all the pushing away she does?  And what about her guy friend, that decides to confess he does like her as more than a friend. Will she try seeing how things go with him?

It was a very sweet story, and I liked most of it. Although Bliss did annoy me at some parts.  Things she did that I can't imagine doing, things that messed things up in her relationship with both Garrick as well as her friendship with the other guy.

A sweet read, and I look forward to reading/listening to more books by Carmack in the future.
