Six Contemporary Romance Audiobook Mini-Reviews

Ah!  I meant to post these last Tuesday but got behind.  And just to make it a little easier as I post about each one below, all of them were borrowed digitally from my local library.  So here you go!

Last Call (Cocktail Series #4.5) by Alice Clayton:
Published:  January 6th, 2015
My rating:  5 stars

As always, I loved this book and these characters.  I loved having all the cameos of couples from past books, as well as the characters we know and love from Simon and Caroline's stories.  Especially Viv and Clarke, who are my favorites.  Now even though you get a good idea about what is going to happen from the synopsis, below my review, it still had tears in my eyes when it happened.  I know this is the end of the series, but our good friend Clive the cat does the epilogue again, and it makes me want so bad a short story where we get to see how the Wallbanger does as a daddy.  I guess this will kind of fit in with my Series Ender Challenge goal.

Here is the synopsis from Goodreads:
From USA TODAY bestselling author Alice Clayton, known for her “deliciously addictive” (The Book Vixen) novels, this Cocktail series novella reunites readers with Caroline and Simon from the wildly successful Wallbanger.

Simon and Caroline are back for another round of baking, banging, and big life changes. Settling in, but never settling down, Caroline has finally struck a balance between the professional and the personal. As one of the top interior designers in San Francisco, she travels all over Northern California between nook time with Simon.

Perpetual globetrotter Simon has cut his frequent flyer miles in half over the last year, preferring to balance his professional and personal life, as well.

The next step in their lives seems preordained—toasts, veils, and the aisle of rose petals. But when an accident on a photo shoot in Southeast Asia brings Caroline the most terrifying phone call she could ever imagine, she has to ask whether “till death do us part” is a more realistic prospect than faces most couples.

It’s been a grand adventure, and Caroline and Simon wouldn’t go out without the best surprise ending ever. One part sexy, one part laughter, a dash of exotic locales, and one pink nightie, mixed with passion, and you’ve got Last Call. Served with a side of Clive.

Salvaged (Saints of Denver #4) by Jay Crownover:
Published:  June 20th, 2017
My rating:  5 stars

I got all the way to the epilogue and then my checkout of this audiobook expired and I had to wait about two weeks before I could recheck it out!  But this was definitely a great ending to a beloved series.  And while I'm pretty new to the Crownover books, only about two years ago did I start reading them, I am such a huge fan now.  Poppy's story was one that kept me in tears a lot.  And then there was Wheeler.  I really adored him.  The dog's name was perfect, Happy.  Just loved it!  While there were some things I kind of think were pretty easy to figure out, the guy with the Hudson for one, I was definitely sad by other things that happened that I just hoped for better.  However Crownover's books are pretty real, not all fluffy happy endings, the happy endings are earned for sure.  But I do have to say that Crownover knows how to do an epilogue to end a series.  You get pretty much everything you want to know answered, and while you might still wish to follow the characters on down the road later, you're not left feeling as if things aren't finished.  I loved all the glimpses we got of Rule and Rome and all the other Marked Men.  I know I need to go back and read Nash's book again, and probably Rowdy as well.  I will miss these characters even with their stories all done.  And I really do wish that we could have seen the front of Wheeler in the picture on the cover of the book like we did with all the others.

Here is the synopsis from Goodreads:
The New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the Marked Men books continues her delightfully sexy Saints of Denver series.

Hudson Wheeler is a nice guy. Everyone knows it, including his fiancĂ©e who left him with a canceled wedding and a baby on the way. He’s tired of finishing last and is ready to start living in the moment with nights soaked in whiskey, fast cars, and even faster girls. He’s set to start living on the edge, but when he meets Poppy Cruz, her sad eyes in the most gorgeous face he’s ever seen hook him in right away. Wheeler can see Poppy’s pain and all he wants to do is take care of her and make her smile, whatever it takes.

Poppy can’t remember a time when she didn’t see strangers as the enemy. After a lifetime of being hurt from the men who swore to protect her, Poppy’s determined to keep herself safe by keeping everyone else at arm’s length. Wheeler’s sexy grin and rough hands from hours restoring classic cars shouldn’t captivate her, but every time she’s with him, she can’t help being pulled closer to him. Though she’s terrified to trust again, Poppy soon realizes it might hurt even more to shut Wheeler out—and the intense feelings pulsing through her are making it near impossible to resist him.

The only thing Poppy is sure of is that her heart is in need of some serious repair, and the more time she spends with Wheeler, the more she’s convinced he’s the only man with the tools to fix it.

Beneath These Chains (Beneath Series #3) by Meghan March:
Published:  June 10th, 2015
My rating:  5 stars

I really ended up enjoying this one a lot!  I was still on the fence about Sebastian York as a narrator when I started this, but by the end I came to really like his voice.  This book definitely made me want another tattoo, not that it is that hard to make me want that these days.  Just the money and the for sure design for the next one are missing still.  There definitely was a twist at the end of this, but I liked how we did get a little bit of a peek into some of the other characters from past books.  Towards the end I got a little worried that there were too many things left, but it was so close to the end that I was unsure how it could all get wrapped up. But the author did a great job with it.  Now I'm looking forward to hopefully listening to the next book, and I'm kind of hoping it will be about Lucas Titan!

Here is the synopsis from Goodreads:
I was raised on the streets, so I know things are rarely as simple as they appear—especially this rich girl showing up at my pawnshop demanding a job.

She’s the most tempting thing I’ve ever seen, and I’ll be damned if I can make her leave.

Shit just got complicated … but when it comes to her—I want complicated.

We’re both fighting our own demons, and our only chance at a future is to let go of the past.

But will we be strong enough to break free from beneath these chains?

Dirty Rowdy Thing (Wild Seasons #2) by Christina Lauren:
Published:  November 4th, 2014
My rating:  5 stars

Seeing a trend with my ratings on all of these?  I have been listening to some AWESOME audiobooks lately!  And once again I got to listen to Sebastian York as the narrator, and I was unsure how I would like it. But you know what?  He worked out fine.  While he has a very distinctive voice, he is definitely able to vary it enough that you do get to fall into the current character based on the author's writing, as opposed to being stuck in just the character you may have just listened to him voicing.  There were sweet parts, and pretty sexy parts.   Honestly?  I don't normally enjoy any kind of bondage in stories, but something about Finn, and the way he was about it, well, I might change my mind a bit.  I never understand again why Harlow couldn't just talk to him.  Of anyone that would have understood, it was Finn.  I did love the times we got to see Ansel, I think Ansel will always be my favorite, it is just his goofy sense of humor.  But Finn, a manly man, you have to have the hots for him.  And I like how Harlow went about it at the end to try to get him back.  Definitely can't wait to listen to the next book in the series.

Here is the synopsis from Goodreads:
From the New York Times best-selling author of Beautiful Bastard, Beautiful Stranger, and Beautiful Player, Book Two of the brand-new Wild Seasons series that started with Sweet Filthy Boy - a story of friends, love, and lust.

Despite their rowdy hookups, Harlow and Finn don't even like each other... which would explain why their marriage lasted only 12 hours. He needs to be in charge and takes whatever he wants. She lives by the Want-something-done? Do-it-yourself mantra. Maybe she's too similar to the rugged fisherman - or just what he needs.

Until Friday Night (The Field Party #1) by Abbi Glines:
Published:  August 25th, 2015
My rating:  4 stars

So, I'd tried to read/listen to another series by Abbi Glines, but couldn't get into it.  This year I decided I'd give her another try since she's going to be at Apollycon in March, which I am planning to attend, well as a volunteer again.  Well, this was the one to go with.  The weird thing is that I ended up, for the third book in a row, listening to Sebastian York as a narrator.  But just like with the last book, he was able to take his very distinctive voice and fit it to the character he was voicing.  This was an audiobook that was so hard to stop listening to, and as I was listening in my car, that made getting out and going into work in the morning really hard.  For the most part it was really good, if not kind of sad.  A few things irritated me, like the fact that Maggie waited forever to talk to her family. And then the whole sex thing seemed kind of fast to me, but what do I know.  I also got irritated with what Maggie did towards the end, one of the big final issues.  But I liked the way the author resolved that conflict.  I will definitely be listening to more books in the series.  And I feel this is one that I can actually purchase for my students, as it is definitely a high school aged book.

Here is the synopsis from Goodreads:
To everyone who knows him, West Ashby has always been that guy: the cocky, popular, way-too-handsome-for-his-own-good football god who led Lawton High to the state championships. But while West may be Big Man on Campus on the outside, on the inside he’s battling the grief that comes with watching his father slowly die of cancer.

Two years ago, Maggie Carleton’s life fell apart when her father murdered her mother. And after she told the police what happened, she stopped speaking and hasn’t spoken since. Even the move to Lawton, Alabama, couldn’t draw Maggie back out. So she stayed quiet, keeping her sorrow and her fractured heart hidden away.

As West’s pain becomes too much to handle, he knows he needs to talk to someone about his father—so in the dark shadows of a post-game party, he opens up to the one girl who he knows won’t tell anyone else.

West expected that talking about his dad would bring some relief, or at least a flood of emotions he couldn’t control. But he never expected the quiet new girl to reply, to reveal a pain even deeper than his own—or for them to form a connection so strong that he couldn’t ever let her go…

Slow Burn (Driven Series #5) by K. Bromberg:
Published:  February 24th, 2015
My rating:  5 stars

This was a very sad book in a lot of parts, and actually ended up being a somewhat timely read, in that October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and the main character is dealing with the fear of getting it herself after her sister died from it, and her mother had it as well.  It was another story that was so hard to stop listening to when I had to go to work.  But it also had some very sexy scenes.  I got mad at Haddie for not telling Becks, or Riley.  Her reasoning was so selfish it just made me so mad.  I get it, I understood what she was thinking, but it still made me mad that she kept doing what she did to Becks.  In the end I liked how everything went.  I was unsure whether the author would make it a completely HEA, and it did go that way, but the breast cancer did really become a real issue, and I loved the bon voyage party they gave Haddie.  I do love these characters, it was especially so much fun to get the banter between Colton and Becks.  Those two crack me up.

Here is the synopsis from Goodreads:
One Night. That's all it was supposed to be.

Reeling from the sudden loss of her sister, Haddie Montgomery has sworn off relationships. All she wanted from Beckett Daniels was a sexy distraction to help her escape her pain for just a little while....There weren’t supposed to be any strings attached—so why can’t she shake the memory of that unforgettable night from her thoughts? Or the taste of his kiss from her lips?

No matter how hard Haddie tries to forget about him, Becks relentlessly tries to prove that she should start living for today. But she is determined to avoid romantic commitment, and she can always use her ex-boyfriend’s reappearance to help snuff out the slow burn within her that Becks has sparked....

Or will fate force her to realize that this kind of connection doesn’t come along very often and a chance at love is worth the risk?

Three Adult Contemporary Romance Mini-Reviews

You know the routine, I'm getting behind again on reviews, and want to get ahead, so here we go!

Not the One (London Lovers #4, Lost in London #1) by Amy Daws:
Published:  December 7th, 2015
Source:  Purchased physical copy at Kinky in Kansas City Convention in order to have author autograph
My rating:  5 stars

I had read the first three books in the London Lovers series: Becoming Us, A Broken Us, and London Bound, as ebooks.  I bought this one before I got the chance to meet the author back in March.  But then I didn't actually get around to reading it, until after I'd listened to the first two books in the Harris Brothers series, Challenge, and Endurance.  And come to find out, that the older sister in those books was part of the series I still needed to finish.  While a  lot of times you do really need to read in order, the Harris brothers are just removed enough that their books didn't ruin this story for me, although it gave me a little "ah-ha!"  moment when I realized the characters from this book were the couple that Belle helped in Endurance.

This book was totally an emotional roller coaster, a tear jerker, but so so good.  Definitely a must-read, as with all the books in the series before, and the ones I've read afterwards.

Here is the synopsis from Goodreads:
My name is Reyna Miracle.
Even though a part of my name is Miracle, there’s nothing miraculous about me.
My body portrays the tales of my life.
Every feeling, every heartbreak, every emotion.
Marked. Inked. Stained.
A walking canvas of my messed up truth.
But there’s one confession I can’t put in a tattoo.
A confession that will kill me to tell, but my best friend died before I had the chance.
Now I’m left with him.
The only one who can hold me in the night and squeeze that spot on my neck that feels like my lifeline between sanity and chaos.
But we don’t work together.
We’re absolute poison for each other.
We’re a stifling, suffocating, sickness of darkness.
But I feel safe...because I’ve made an art of pushing people away.
Now he’s pushing back…
And making me believe...
Making me wonder...
Maybe, just maybe...
I could be the one.

The Bachelor Auction (The Bachelors of Arizona #1) by Rachel Van Dyken:
Published:  October 4th, 2016
Source:  Stripped cover paperback from bookstore where I work
My rating:  4 stars

It started a little rough for me.  It was almost too simple of writing.  But as the story went on, I really got to enjoy the story, the brothers were hilarious, and the sexy scenes were great as well.  I was unsure just whether the grandfather was on their side, or if he was really being honest and trying to keep the two apart.  Overall it was a sweet read, and I look forward to reading about the brothers in the future books.

Here is the synopsis from Goodreads:

Cinderella never had to deal with this crap.

Jane isn't entirely sure that Cinderella got such a raw deal. Sure, she had a rough start, but didn't she eventually land a prince and a happily-ever-after? Meanwhile, Jane is busy waiting on her demanding, entitled sisters, running her cleaning business, and . . . yep, not a prince in sight. Until a party and a broken shoe incident leave Jane wondering if princes---or at least, a certain deliciously hunky billionaire---maybe do exist.

Except Brock Wellington isn't anyone's dream guy. Hell, a prince would never agree to be auctioned off in marriage to the highest bidder. Or act like an arrogant jerk---even if it was just a façade. Now, as Brock is waiting for the auction chopping block, he figures it's karmic retribution that he's tempted by a sexy, sassy woman he can't have. But while they can't have a fairy-tale ending, maybe they can indulge in a little bit of fantasy . .

The Unidentified Redhead (Redhead #1) by Alice Clayton:
Published:  January 1st, 2010
Source:  Purchased hard-copy from bargain table at bookstore where I work
My rating:  5 stars

As always, Clayton's books make me laugh so hard, and have great sexy times, and this time she really got me because it is an older woman story!  As an older woman, or should I say a woman interested in younger men, I loved this.  I've got the next two books in the series, also from bargain tables, sitting on my TBR bookshelf in my bedroom.  And you can't help but fall in love with Jack, who I think Clayton said was kind of based/modeled on Robert Pattinson.  Again, I will suggest this author's books to anyone looking for a fun, romantic, and sexy when needed, read.

Here is the synopsis from Goodreads:

The first in USA TODAY bestselling author Alice Clayton’s Redhead series is a playful and erotic romance between an aspiring actress and Hollywood’s hottest new leading man.

When Grace Sheridan returns to Los Angeles to become a working actress, it’s a second shot at a life-long dream. With some help from her best-friend agent, will that dream become a reality—or at thirty-three, has Grace missed her chance at the big time? And when an unexpected sizzling romance with Jack Hamilton, the entertainment industry's newest “it” boy, threatens to shine an uncomfortable spotlight on her life, how will that affect her career…and his?

Funny, borderline neurotic Grace is perfect in her imperfections, and the sexual chemistry between her and charming yet blissfully unaware Jack is off the charts. With laugh-out-loud dialogue and a super-steamy romance that will get your heart racing, sneaking around in L.A. and dodging the paparazzi has never been so fun.

Eight Adult Romance Audiobook Mini-Reviews

Honestly, I feel like I'm starting to get caught up on my reviews.  Knock on wood.  But in order to keep up, I've gotten a little more behind on audiobook reviews, as you can tell by the fact that I'll be sharing EIGHT of them as mini-reviews in this post today.  These 8 books are made up of books by some favorite authors, as well as a new author that I'm really enjoying.  So read on if you'd like and see what I thought of these eight new adult and adult contemporary romances.

Hero by Samantha Young:
Published:  February 3rd, 2015
Source:  Free digital download from library
My rating:  5 stars

So let's just say that this book was one that my checkout from the library expired when I was at a VERY important point in the story, at 75%.  It was almost a whole month before I got it back to finish listening to.  It expired right before I went to Apollycon and got to see the author for the second time.  Once again you have the "secret" that one wants to keep and the other doesn't, which is something in a lot of stories for drama, but in real life I don't think would happen.  But I loved so much about the book. Once again Young writes wonderful characters, especially the side characters sometimes.  In this case it was Caine's neighbor Effie.  I loved her so much!  And then to have the characters that you felt you loved turn out to be the ones in the end that weren't the ones you should love, so much drama and emotion, and another wonderful book from Samantha Young.

Here is the blurb from Goodreads:
Alexa Holland’s father was her hero—until her shocking discovery that she and her mother weren't his only family. Ever since, Alexa has worked to turn her life in a different direction and forge her own identity outside of his terrible secrets. But when she meets a man who’s as damaged by her father’s mistakes as she is, Alexa must help him.

Caine Carraway wants nothing to do with Alexa’s efforts at redemption, but it’s not so easy to push her away. Determined to make her hate him, he brings her to the edge of her patience and waits for her to walk away. But his actions only draw them together and, despite the odds, they begin an intense and explosive affair.

Only Caine knows he can never be the white knight that Alexa has always longed for. And when they're on the precipice of danger, he finds he’ll do anything to protect either one of them from being hurt again…

Mai Tai'd Up (Cocktail #4) by Alice Clayton:
Published:  December 2nd, 2014
Source:  Free digital download from library
My rating:  5 stars

Alice Clayton is a genius.  I so love all of her books.  Soo, sooo much.  The things she has her characters say and do in the story either remind me so much of something I would actually say or do, or sometimes remind me exactly of a romantic comedy movie.  For example, in this book the main character says "we had the sex".  And instead of using actual curse words, she says "fudge".  That is something I always did for the longest time, and still do occasionally as I work in a high school and do need to say something when I accidentally stub a toe, or something.  :-)  I also love how she brings in the characters from other books in the series, or sometimes from other series, as you'll see in the next review after this one.  We get Vivian and Clark from Screwdrivered, the book right before this one.  Clayton knows how to take me from tears streaming down my face like I'm in a rain storm, to giggling like an idiot thanks to conversations with lines like the bigger than a breadbox one.  Not to mention the comment "with the strength of a thousand nuns."  A comment I want to use more.  And then there was the part about the dogs, I loved the dogs.  Such sweet dogs, and such a wonderful story.  I was going to share my picture with the author from Apollycon, but I can't find it!!!  And I know I had to have taken one with her.  I could swear it!  Oh well, she's supposed to be at the Apollycon in 2018, so I'll plan to see her there and for sure get the picture.

Here is the blurb from Goodreads:
Looking for the perfect mix of smart, sexy, and sassy? Mai Tai’d Up continues USA TODAY bestselling author Alice Clayton’s Cocktail series, which began with Wallbanger and continued with Rusty Nailed and Screwdrivered.

Eligible bachelor Lucas Campbell is very available, but very picky. A veterinarian in Monterey, California, his life is perfect: he works, he sails, he loves the ocean and the mountains—so why rock the boat? Then Miss Chloe Patterson comes along.

Chloe has the body of a supermodel, the mouth of a sailor, and the fashion sense of teenage guy in 1990s Seattle. A former Miss California, she walked away from a cushy life, bought an old ranch outside Monterey, and turned it into Our Gang, a sanctuary for rescued and abandoned pit bulls. A woman who’s clearly not afraid of dog poop, she enjoys rehabilitating her “warrior angels.”

Local gossip reports that she ditched her fiancĂ© the night before their wedding (true), and that she moved up north to start a new life (also true). She didn’t want to be tied down (true), but she wouldn’t mind being tied up—especially by that hot vet she’s seen around town a few times (true, true, and have-you-seen-his-butt?-true).

But is Chloe ready to date again? And is Lucas ready to take on not only Chloe, but forty pit bulls? One moonlit sail, two bottles of wine, and a few sailor knots might just do the trick.

Buns (Hudson Valley #3) by Alice Clayton:
Published:  May 23rd, 2017
Source:  Free digital download from library
My rating:  5 stars

Again, Clayton totally blew me away.  First though, I had a bit of an issue with the audiobook because the narrator's voice was the same who does Tessa's voice in the audiobooks for the After series by Anna Todd, which I've listened to over and over.  But soon enough I was able to get past it and really get into the story.  While the main character, Clara, did one of those things that seems to be standard, but I never quite get, I dealt with it.  I personally have situations with friends or family that I didn't have when I was a kid or still haven't had with friends, and if they were to come about, I would be so  happy now!  So I don't understand people who don't want them when they do come around.  But I guess I understand the part about worrying about being disappointed in the end, the worry that usually drives these characters.  I loved having all of the characters from the first two books come back, especially Natalie and Oscar from Cream of the Crop.  And it was even great to have characters from both the Cocktail series, that I love, and the Redhead series that I own all of it, but haven't read yet, make cameos in this one.  My biggest sadness though with this story, is that I have no idea what is coming next for the author. This is the final novel in this series I think, since it was just the three friends.  So I'm very eager to see what she has up her sleeves next.  Although, as I mentioned, I still have one whole series to read and another to finish.

Here is the blurb from Goodreads:
Clara Morgan is living the dream, if you can call rebranding hotels that are desperate for a new life and running any kind of marathon a dream. Which she does. But the career she loves and the endurance races that keep her adrenaline pumping have kept her too busy to put down any roots. Growing up in foster care, she’s never been able to establish traditions of her own, which may be why she’s fascinated by the rituals that generations-old family resorts are known for. She’s especially interested in the Bryant Mountain House, and not just for their secret recipe for the yummy, gooey, can’t-get-enough-of Hot Cross Buns….

Archie Bryant, the man with the Buns, is fifth generation and one-day-owner of the charming yet run-down Bryant Mountain House in Bailey Falls, New York. He’s determined to save his family’s legacy from the wrecking ball the old-fashioned way—by gritting his teeth and doing what needs to be done. There’s no way Archie will be influenced by the new hotel branding expert his father brought in to turn one hundred and fifty years of tradition on its head just to attract a faster, younger, slicker crowd. But when some of Clara’s ideas start bringing in new, paying customers, Archie can’t deny that she may have just given him a shot at keeping his resort open.

It’s sticky, it’s messy, it’s sweet, it’s Buns.

Sweet Filthy Boy (Wild Seasons #1) by Christina Lauren:
Published:  May 13th, 2014
Source:  Free digital download from the library
My rating:  5 stars

Okay, so this is my second series by Christina Lauren, and once again I'm hooked.  Honestly, I've never really been interested/attracted to French men, as far as I knew.  But Ansel, well, I want my own Ansel.  This narrator was good, although she was one of those that did read kind of slow at times.  This story had me at only Chapter 4 where I didn't want to get out of the car and stop listening because it was soooo good!  I had an idea what the issue was going to be for the two of them, beyond the whole part that he was going back to France.  I knew that the friend Perry would definitely be the issue.  Especially the way it was all really generic the way Ansel talked about Perry.  But now I want a foreign man who will give me a sweet nickname that is a word in their language.  As with the other books in the Beautiful Bastard series, the sex was totally hot!  I totally loved this book, and can't wait to read the rest.  I did get to meet one of the two authors that actually write the Christina Lauren books when I was at Apollycon back in March.  Here I am with Christina:

Maybe at Apollycon 2018 I'll get to meet Lauren.  :-)

Here's the blurb from Goodreads:
One-night stands are supposed to be with someone convenient, or wickedly persuasive, or regrettable. They aren’t supposed to be with someone like him.

But after a crazy Vegas weekend celebrating her college graduation—and terrified of the future path she knows is a cop-out—Mia Holland makes the wildest decision of her life: follow Ansel Guillaume—her sweet, filthy fling—to France for the summer and just…play.

When feelings begin to develop behind the provocative roles they take on, and their temporary masquerade adventures begin to feel real, Mia will have to decide if she belongs in the life she left because it was all wrong, or in the strange new one that seems worlds away.

Sweet Filthy Morning After (Wild Seasons #1.5) by Christina Lauren:
Published:  October 14th, 2014
Source:  Free digital download from library
My rating:  4 stars

This was a really fun novella told from Ansel's point of view from the book above this.  Unfortunately, I had to give it only 4 stars because it was too short!  I loved hearing Ansel's side of the story, and would love to have heard more of the whole story from his point of view.  The narrator didn't work that well for me though, although he had the perfect accent, he sounded too much like the actor that played Laurent in the first two Twilight movies, and so I had trouble not picturing him as I listened.  Honestly there wasn't really much of a blurb on Goodreads to share.  So nothing more than my first sentence in my review is what I can give you!

#Nerd (Hashtag #1) by Cambria Hebert:
Published:  November 1st, 2014
Source:  Free digital download from the library
My rating:  4 stars

The main character in this book reminded me a lot of myself.  Of course with a title like #Nerd, me being a nerd, that was pretty obvious.  Honestly the way the story started out, I really didn't want to like Romeo, but he totally grew on me.  The thing that happened in Rimmel's past was definitely something that would make someone feel the way she does.  I loved that the roommate situation with Romeo was handled in the way it was.  You did have a really bad guy, and honestly, there was really no way to redeem him.  He really was just a bad guy.  I still don't know if by the end of the book I could understand just why the guy hated Romeo so much.  Romeo turned out to be a great guy, even if our first real introduction to him included a blowjob in the library with a random girl when he was supposed to be getting tutored by Rimmel.  :-)  And I love his best friend, who I'll talk about even more in my mini-review of book 2 coming up after this one.

Here's the blurb from Goodreads:
Two people from completely different worlds are about to be thrown together...

In more ways than one.

She wants to keep her scholarship. He wants to stay on the team. An awkward alliance doesn't even begin to cover Rimmel and Romeo's relationship.

But that's about to change.

It starts with a dare. An initiation. A challenge.

Quickly, it turns into more. But when you're a victim of your status, there is no room for anything real. The rules are clear and simple.

Stick to your circle.

And never fall in love with anyone on the outside.

#Hater (Hashtag #2) by Cambria Hebert:
Published:  July 7th, 2015
Source:  Free digital download from library
My rating:  5 stars

It turned out that I liked this sequel even better than the first one!  The first one ended on a pretty steady, could be over type of ending. This book however, wow, that cliffhanger!  I like that the characters are realistic/reasonable enough to realize that the other one would not cheat on them, so that even when the villain Zach is back,  and trying to start stuff, Romeo never once believes that Rimmel was trying to get with him.  And as I mentioned above, Romeo's best friend, Brayden, he is one of my favorite characters! The way that he's adopted Rimmel as a little sister is so sweet, and comical!  This story had some really intense moments though.  There was real life-threatening danger, and something happened to Rimmel that made her whole college career come into danger when she didn't have the money to make up for the scholarships that might be taken away.  We learn more about her past, and get glimpses into it with her fall into the pool, as well as when Romeo's mother looks into it.  Then there is definitely foreshadowing of the issue for Rimmel, but it didn't turn out to be what I'd expected exactly, or what I'd expected to happen.  I will have to get ahold of the third book on audio soon so that I can find out what will happen after this ending.  My question of just why Zach hates Romeo so much still wasn't answered, other than to maybe know that he is just psychotic!

Here is the blurb from Goodreads:

It started with unspoken animosity. The bitter bite of jealousy. And now its full blown hate.

It was during my first football game that I first felt the first chill of hate. I looked it right in the eyes and felt its sticky tentacles reach out for me. I’d never experienced something so cold and empty before.

The effect of that look lingered, like an unspoken promise, long after it was gone.

Becoming a couple – becoming the other half of a campus celebrity wasn’t easy. I let down walls guarding my heart and he looked past my glasses and accident prone tendencies. Romeo and I are an unlikely match, a #nerd and a jock. But we made it.

And we’re happy.

Zach doesn’t want us to be happy. He wants Romeo to pay for getting him kicked out of Omega and for the night he spent in jail. He’s going to use anything and everything he can to get his revenge. Including me.

As the weather on campus grows cold and the days become dark, revenge becomes the center of someone’s life and the happiness Romeo and I worked so hard for is threatened.

I can’t help but worry that our love is going to be overshadowed by hate.

My rating:  5 stars

I first found this author through a free e-book, her London Lovers series.   And now, well I'm sold.  This book had it all!  Hilarious and snarky dialogue, sexy British accents, a sexy soccer player, a nerdy girl, and sexy sex scenes.  The male narrator totally made me think of the actors who played Fred and George Weasley in the Harry Potter movies.  And since I do think they're cute, that totally worked.  I loved the main character Indie's "Penis list".  It was so hilarious!  And whenever she'd talk about "Penis number one" and so on, I couldn't help but giggle.  Now, Camden kept jumping to the wrong conclusions, which got a bit annoying. But I guess you have to give him a break since he was injured and unsure what his life would be without soccer, or football in every country other than the US.  I'm so excited to continue with the series and meet, or since I've already met, get to know better each of the Harris brothers, all football stars.

Here is the blurb from Goodreads:
He’s her patient. She’s his doctor. They shouldn’t. But God, do they want to.

Camden Harris, the famously hot, hulk of a footballer is laid up in a London hospital. But his busted knee doesn’t stop him from running his well-practiced game on Indie Porter—his redheaded spitfire of a doctor. She’s not his type, not even close. But she could be the perfect distraction from the soul-crushing damage this injury could cost him.

Indie’s tired of her naivety putting a target on her back. As a gifted child, she’s let her education take the front seat her whole life. But a fling with a footballer like Camden might be just what she needs to grab life by the balls.

And he could be the perfect guy for the plan she’s been sitting on for over two years.

But when feelings make a final play, there’s no amount of medicine that can heal the damage to their hearts.
