Blog Tour with Review and Giveaway: Fat Girl Begone! by D.E. Haggerty @dehaggerty

Book info:
TitleFat Girl Begone!
Author:  D.E. Haggerty
Genre:  Adult contemporary romantic comedy
Published:  May 1st, 2017

Synopsis:
I’m a total mess. My boyfriend dumped me – get this – because I diet too much. Not because I’m fat, mind you. Of course, this spurs me into the diet-fitness-revenge-plan of the century, which leads me to the gym and a scorching hot personal trainer. I even manage to make some cool new friends, including a millionaire if you can believe it. Things are looking up! Naturally, that’s the moment my ex decides he wants me back, the personal trainer asks me out, and my millionaire male buddy decides to throw his hat in the ring. But that’s not enough drama. No, not for me. Because I’ve also lost my job and decided to start my own business. Just call me Ms. Drama.

Warning: Bad language, bumpy roads, and embarrassing moments ahead. But there’s also more than a bit of romance and even, if we’re lucky, love. Fingers crossed.

My Review:

My rating:  4 stars

This book was a lot of fun!  I loved how each chapter had a positive thought for the day at the beginning, especially since at one time in my life I was doing that same type of thing!  The characters were really all so realistic and so much fun.  I really enjoyed her best friend Blaze, although I might have slapped her a few times myself for just how persistent she was.  The guys in the story all fit perfectly in giving not only hope for Everly, but in adding just the right amount of humor and emotion.  Her personal trainer, Gabe, I loved him!  He was such a great character! Then there was her ex, Josh, so easy to want to hate him.  And of course Carter, the cute nerdy guy from the gym, with the great sense of humor, and also just a great guy.  Everly's new friends that she met at the gym made for a fun new group of people to bounce all of the story's angles off of.  This was a totally fun and sweet read, but realistic, a lot of the things that Everly was awkward or unsure about are totally things I have found myself doing or feeling that way about.  My only complaint, is that honestly Everly wasn't in any way fat.  The fact that they even point it out in one part of the story did kind of bug me.  Of course that could be my own insecurity, knowing that at one time, about 20 pounds ago, I was the same weight, and definitely felt like she did, but at my petite height of 5 foot, I was totally overweight.  So that was a little bit of a downer at that point.  However I think the whole point was to capitalize on how many women, like myself, feel that way, even when we aren't as bad off as we think we are, like I used to think.  And the author does a great job of addressing this very thought of mine in the section right after the story. Of course, that good old ex-boyfriend, well he had a lot to do with her thinking that.  In the end the story went exactly like it should.  And once again, I was very pleased that the final dramatic point of the story didn't have to involve either one of the main characters pushing the other one away because of a misunderstanding that everyone else saw right through.

About the Author:

I grew-up reading everything I could get my grubby hands on, from my mom's Harlequin romances, to Nancy Drew, to Little Women. When I wasn't flipping pages in a library book, I was penning horrendous poems, writing songs no one should ever sing, or drafting stories which have thankfully been destroyed. College and a stint in the U.S. Army came along, robbing me of free time to write and read, although on the odd occasion I did manage to sneak a book into my rucksack between rolled up socks, MRIs, t-shirts, and cold weather gear. After surviving the army experience, I went back to school and got my law degree. I jumped ship and joined the hubby in the Netherlands before the graduation ceremony could even begin. A few years into my legal career, I was exhausted, fed up, and just plain done. I quit my job and sat down to write a manuscript, which I promptly hid in the attic after returning to the law. But being a lawyer really wasn’t my thing, so I quit (again!) and went off to Germany to start a B&B. Turns out being a B&B owner wasn’t my thing either. I polished off that manuscript languishing in the attic before deciding to follow the husband to Istanbul where I decided to give the whole writer-thing a go. But ten years was too many to stay away from my adopted home. I packed up again and moved to The Hague where I’m currently working on my next book. I hope I’ll always be working on my next book.

Fat girl Begone! is my eleventh book.
